Raging rep. to do-nothing Dems: Do your job

Frustrated by yet another House Judiciary Committee meeting about the border crisis, Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) stopped his opening statement yesterday to castigate his colleagues for doing nothing about it. The Democratic majority has not introduced any bills to address the flood of illegal immigrants, such as changing the asylum process. Collins said Democrats are happy to keep blasting President Trump in hearings without coming up with solutions themselves. An excerpt:

In February, the Border Patrol apprehended 66,000 individuals. That number has been above 92,000 every month since. Peaking at over 132,000 in May alone.

You know just last week, I was horrified and deeply affected when Secretary [Kevin] McAleenan told me that there are three ongoing cases where a small group of children, 5 to 8, in each case had been used by dozens of different adults to cross our border seeking release in the US. And my colleagues claim . . .

. . . look, I’m gonna stop. I’m not going to read this.

You know what is dehumanizing? It’s continuing to bring the same witnesses, or the same people from the same agencies, to talk about this over and over and over again. What’s dehumanizing is doing that and not doing anything about it. That’s what’s dehumanizing.

It’s talking about a problem. Talking about a problem. Talking about a problem. And never putting a solution up.

And look, my Democratic colleagues have ideas. I may disagree with those ideas, but put a bill up! I have a bill. Put mine up. Make amendments to it, do whatever you want to do. That’s what Congress is supposed to do.

What a competent and capable majority would do is actually put a bill forward.

We’re having bash-the-president time. Bash-the-administration time. This is all this is. This is what bothers me. I can read another opening statement, we can ask questions and we’ll all go through this. And we can talk about how the administration is not competent, not capable — I think that just falls back, it falls back on this committee.

Why has the majority not put a bill forward?

No offense to our witnesses, we’ve heard your statements. So I don’t know what’s going to move us this time that didn’t move us last time.

This is becoming, unfortunately, a committee of press releases. That’s it.

Dehumanizing is taking people you say you care about but doing nothing for them. That’s dehumanizing.

Competent and capable? Last time I understood, Congress should pass legislation. I’ll be very slow. Pass. Bills. That. Matter. Don’t have hearings that are strictly stunts.

Review: Animated ‘Chance’ takes on dog fighting with overly earnest yet well-intended spirit

The CG animated feature “Chance” is a well-intended but heavy-handed denunciation of the barbaric blood sport of dog fighting. The title character (voiced by Will Canon) is a dreamer of a pit bull, who believes in a canine god and a peaceful place where “Hatonas” (dogs) can live idyllic lives.... from latimes.com - Los Angeles Times http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-et-mn-mini-chance-review-20190403-story.html>

Convicted rapist killer strikes again after getting out of jail

A convicted rapist killer who strangled a teen in 1981 and was suspected of cutting out the eyes out of an earlier victim has been arrested on a new rape charge, six years after he got out of jail. Christopher “Crazy Chris” Aniades, 62, is being held on an attempted forcible rape charge after he allegedly attacked the victim, according to the city Department of Correction. He’s being held at the Eric. M Taylor Center in Queens on first degree attempted rape, according to the city Department of Correction website. His arrest on Aug. 2 was based on a warrant issued by the state’s Division of Parole. The NYPD and the state DOC said they couldn’t provide details on Aniades’ latest offense. Aniades, who was released on Aug. 20, 2013 after spending more than 30 years in jail, became a poster boy of the violent 1980s in New York, when homicides routinely reached 2,000 a year. He was sentenced to 25-years to life for abducting, raping and killing 19-year-old Doreen Vitale on Oct. 15 198...
