There have been widespread reports of voting machine problems in Mississippi — with residents from more than a half-dozen counties claiming to have had their ballots automatically changed Tuesday while trying to vote in the state’s GOP governor primary runoff. “It is not letting me vote for who I want to vote for,” said one Mississippian in a Facebook video, which showed one of the voting machines malfunctioning. Every time the man tried to select his pick for governor — Bill Waller Jr. — the device would automatically choose his opponent, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves. “How can that happen?” a woman can be heard asking on video. “I don’t know, it’s in the machine,” a man replies. A crazed triple homicide suspect ran naked through a Virginia town while trying to evade police on Tuesday, according to local reports and video of the chase. The suspect, 19-year-old Matthew Bernard, allegedly killed his mother, sister, niece and a dog Tuesday morning in Pittsylvania County, near the border with North Carolina, WZTV reported. Virginia state police began searching for Bernard, whom authorities said was believed to be armed with a rifle and dangerous. Police caught up with the suspect Tuesday afternoon as local media outlets were preparing for a press briefing about the deadly incident. Video captured by television crews shows Bernard, completely naked, run toward police officers as they try to mace him and subdue him by hitting him with batons. Undaunted, he then attacks a church groundskeeper who was getting into his car, the video shows. SEATTLE — The Yankees were notified reliever Cory Gearrin’s toe tap, ruled illegal Monday night by crew chief Sam Holbrook, with plate umpire Manny Gonzalez calling the right-hander for a balk, would not be an issue in the future. President Trump on Tuesday took a swipe at three GOP politicians — dubbed the “Three Stooges” — who are contemplating running against him in a presidential primary. Trump didn’t mention any of his potential challengers by name, in a pair of tweets issued Tuesday night, but instead gave them derogatory nicknames as he does with his Democratic rivals. “Can you believe it? I’m at 94% approval in the Republican Party, and have Three Stooges running against me. An Indiana woman who was convicted of fatally stabbing her boyfriend during a sex game more than 18 years ago was released from prison on Tuesday, a report said. Anastazia Schmid, now 45, butchered boyfriend Tony Heathcote during what was intended to be a consensual sex game in March 4, 2001 by stabbing him 39 times, according to the Lafayette Journal & Courier. During a hearing on Monday, Schmid took responsibility for the killing. “She apologized to the victim’s family,” Tippecanoe County Prosecutor Patrick Harrington said Heathcote was blindfolded and restrained as part of the game and Schmid went into a psychotic break from reality when she stabbed him, according to a U.S. District Court. During the attack, Schmid heard a voice telling her that Heathcote was evil and needed to be eliminated. Schmid was released Tuesday morning from Tippecanoe County Prosecutor. Robinson Cano took live batting practice Tuesday for the first time since tearing his left hamstring, clinging to the hope he will play again this season. “I have been feeling better every single day, so we are progressing,” said the Mets second baseman, who sustained the injury on Aug. 4 in Pittsburgh. Cano says he was told at the time of the injury he would need six to 12 weeks for recovery. He would then need to work back into baseball shape without the benefit of rehab games, as the minor league season will soon be complete. The 36-year-old Cano said he has been running, but not at game speed. “We have to do some tests to see how strong it’s getting compared to the other [hamstring],” Cano said. “So we just keep working on it. Two people were found dead on Tuesday at an Arkansas home where a man was barricaded inside and firing shots at police officers, a report said. The two victims were discovered lying on the front lawn of the home in Helena, Ark., while the shooting suspect was holed up inside with a hostage, according to WREG-TV. A number of shots were fired at the responding officers, the report said. The SWAT team has descended on the rural home, and Arkansas State Police were assisting the situation. The identities of the deceased were not immediately available. It was not clear Tuesday night what had sparked the violence. SANTA ANA, Calif. — Authorities say a 23-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to push a high school cross-country runner off a bridge in Southern California. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said the boy’s teammates were able to fight off the woman after she assaulted two of them Aug. 23 in Ladera Ranch. Officials say during the assault the suspect grabbed one of the boys and attempted to throw him over the railing onto a roadway below. Prosecutors said Tuesday that Stephanie Redondo also faces battery and assault charges. Authorities described her as a transient. It wasn’t known if she has an attorney.
