Going topless effectively legalized in six states

A Colorado city’s decision to discontinue a legal battle to bar women from appearing topless in public has effectively legalized the risque fashion statement in six western states, a report said Thursday. Fort Collins, Colorado, decided not to continue their challenge to a federal court’s decision that a ban on going topless in the city amounts to unconstitutional discrimination, NBC News reported. The city had argued that a repeal of the ban would lead to women “parading in front of elementary schools or swimming topless in the public pool,” according to the report. The city decided not to appeal the decision this month after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on the legal battle already, NBC reported. The decision to not move forward with the appeal effectively legalizes the practice in the six states covered by the 10th Circuit court, according to the report. Women will no be able to go topless in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma because of the ...

The Giants were never going to win against Mike Francesa

The Giants can’t win. On the field or on WFAN. So the team and coach Pat Shurmur canceled his weekly Monday “interview” with Mike Francesa. The team decided there was no point to go on with Francesa — and it is probably right. Francesa doesn’t conduct interviews — especially when he is in bullying mode. He babbles on without any respect. On Monday, Francesa “questioned” Shurmur by saying: “I hate to say it, you look like a terrible team. You are not good at anything. You have a really good running back. You have a good kicker, who missed a field goal yesterday, but, other than that, you can’t get the ball in the end zone and you can’t stop anybody. That’s a hard combination.” That was the question. Shurmur responded, “Well, those are things that we have to work on as we move forward.” Shurmur’s answer told you that he doesn’t care what Francesa says. Really, the whole exercise is pretty pointless unless you like unintentional humor. Francesa had already called Giants genera...

Wall Street bankers say firm botched $10M compensation payment

Two top Wall Street dealmakers say they were snookered into a four-year legal battle over $10 million in back pay — only to learn from the New York Post that they were legally entitled to that money years ago. The bankers, Michael Kramer and Derron Slonecker, say their former employer, Perella Weinberg Partners, and its lawyers at Weil, Gotshal & Manges engaged in “misconduct” by failing to disclose that they had botched their compensation back in 2011, according to a letter filed in New York State Supreme Court. It’s the latest twist in a case that has also led to finger-pointing between Perella and Weil — with Weil recently asking to bow out of representing Perella after expelling the bank from its cafeteria. As The Post reported in August, Weil lawyers missed a crucial deadline to defer $10.5 million in compensation for Kramer and Slonecker by five months — meaning that, in the eyes of federal and state tax authorities, the dealmakers should have received the money in one sh...

Raccoon terrorizes NJ town, doesn’t stop after getting tased

A raccoon terrorized a New Jersey town on Thursday, biting at least two people and charging at police officers — after they had tased it. The masked bandit started spreading mayhem in Maywood around 1:30 p.m., when it lunged at an 82-year-old man sitting on a lawn chair and chomped on his finger, arm and leg, the North Jersey Record reported. At around 2 p.m., the trash panda chased a group of children and one adult to a backyard on Oak Avenue. About 10 minutes later, the frenzied fiend found its next victim — and attacked a 72-year-old man doing yard work from behind. Eventually, two police officers cornered the beast and tased it. But it shrugged the volts off and lunged at the cops, who fired three shots at the crazy creature, but missed. Finally, Bergen County animal control officers were able to capture the raccoon alive. The animal will be tested for rabies. Detective Sgt. Matthew Parodi said to expect the results within four business days. Both the 82-year-old man and t...

Missing teen Ryder Cambron ‘orchestrated’ her disappearance

Police in Texas spent two days searching for a missing 15-year-old girl — only to find out she “orchestrated” her own disappearance with the help of a teenage boy, and even left clues to suggest she’d been kidnapped. Ryder Cambron left her home in Magnolia Tuesday around 8 p.m. and never came back — prompting authorities from multiple agencies to scour nearby woods and towns, using everything from bloodhounds to helicopters. Dozens of volunteers, including the teen’s family and friends, as well as strangers, braved rain and mud on Wednesday to look for her, KHOU-11 reported. Her parents told local cops they were worried sick about their daughter. By Thursday evening, detectives announced that Cambron had been safely found in Montgomery — and that she’d faked her own abduction with the help of a 17-year-old boy. Cambron “left clues for her family to believe she had been abducted,” including leaving the “Mule” style UTV she was last seen on and her cell phone in a park before takin...

Rangers jobs are up for grabs in preseason games

Maybe it was hyperbole. Rangers coach David Quinn, nevertheless, was right in the fact that there has been a fair amount of competition in training camp, with a lot on the line in the preseason. To project the roster right now isn’t easy, and a lot of determining how the Blueshirts will look when they host the Jets on opening night, Oct. 3, is up to the performance of the players between now and then — along with a stalemated contract holdout. “It’s real. The competition is real,” Quinn said before his team got a day off practice Thursday to participate in their golf outing, having opened their preseason Wednesday night with a 4-3 loss to the Devils at the Garden. “I said to our guys before training camp — I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a training camp in our league that has more opportunities. “Not just from making a roster standpoint, but from putting yourself in a spot on the roster. These games mean an awful lot. Looking forward to seeing what these guys can do.” Quinn ...

Mets’ secret playoff push weapon: Their health

Even when they ranked among the industry’s higher rollers, the Mets routinely found themselves plagued by organizational depth concerns. Or have you forgotten how they placed the fate of their 2006 season in the hands of erratic Oliver Perez (he pitched well!), turned similarly in 2007 to a gassed Tom Glavine (he didn’t) and fielded a 2008 do-or-die lineup with left fielder Nick Evans and second baseman Ramon Martinez (they posted 0-fers)? Here comes your daily dose of irony, then: Now closer to the middle of the pack economically, the Mets don’t look so shallow anymore. Yes, as they enjoyed their final day off of the regular season, with the three other contenders for the National League’s second wild card taking the field, the Mets could take solace in this surprising reality: They can make a strong case for possessing the deepest roster of anyone in this fight. Set to take on the Reds for a three-game weekend series in Cincinnati starting Friday night, then winding up their sche...

AOC calls for DC to become a state, claims ‘right to vote is denied’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., called on Thursday for Washington, D.C. to receive statehood, indicating that residents didn’t have the “right to vote.” “DC was the 1st territory in the United States to free the enslaved. It’s where Black Americans fled the tyranny of slavery & towards greater freedom, to DC. Yet today it’s where 2nd class citizenship reigns, and the right to vote is denied,” she said. It’s unclear what she was referring to since citizens in Washington, DC have the right to vote like every other citizen. She appeared to be complaining about the fact that DC congressmen and congresswomen can’t vote in the House of Representatives. DC residents also do not have any representation in the Senate. DC was the 1st territory in the United States to free the enslaved. It’s where Black Americans fled the tyranny of slavery & towards greater freedom, to DC. Yet today it’s where 2nd class citizenship reigns, and the right to vote is denied. It’s time to rec...

Tom Brady snaps during ‘ridiculous’ Titans-Jaguars debacle

This Titans-Jaguars mess was not able to hold Tom Brady’s attention. The Patriots legend was dutifully tuning into the Thursday night game in rainy Jacksonville, but got fed up at the end of the first half with the never-ending parade of penalties. “I’m turning off this game I can’t watch these ridiculous penalties anymore,” Brady tweeted . Joe Buck read the tweet out during the NFL Network broadcast as he and analyst Troy Aikman shared the frustration. “When he makes a statement like that it should get somebody’s attention. I agree, this is ridiculous,” Aikman said. There were 10 accepted penalties in the first half of the game, which the Jaguars were leading 14-0 at the time. “Come back, Tom Brady,” Buck implored as the second quarter ended. NYPD cop who ‘protected’ El Chapo’s wife needs GoFundMe

The cop who moonlighted as bodyguard for Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s wife, and now faces cocaine-slinging charges, apparently didn’t save the proceeds from his alleged crimes. Pals of Ishmael Bailey, 36, are trying to scrape together $25,000 for the accused peddler’s bail — arguing he’s “another ‘brother’ wrongfully accused.” “Ishmael’s name has been attached to outlandish, false accusations in the media as of late,” reads a GoFundMe page set up on behalf of Bailey seeking $7,000. Courtney Turner, who started the page, did not respond to a request for comment. Bailey was busted this week in an undercover sting after agreeing to “provide security for the transportation of cocaine” for two bulk-drug deliveries in Queens — in return for a promised total of $7,500, according to court papers. “The defendant would be paid $1,500 cash for each kilogram he transported,” the criminal complaint against him says. Bailey is due back in court on Oct. 3. Credit: Source link The post NYPD co...

Jeffrey Epstein accuser reacts to his death: ‘I was in mourning’

One of Jeffrey Epstein’s accusers was in “mourning” when she heard about the pedophile’s death — but only because it meant he wouldn’t be held accountable for his crimes, she said in an interview aired Thursday. Virginia Roberts Giuffre, now 35, has said that she was just a teenager when she was recruited as one of Epstein’s “sex slaves” and ordered to sleep with a rotating door of high-powered men, including the UK’s Prince Andrew. When she heard the perverted financier had died in a Manhattan lockup on Aug. 10, Giuffre was in “shock,” she said in an interview for a special edition of “Dateline NBC.” “I was in mourning,” Giuffre said. “Not because the world lost a monster, I wasn’t mourning the death of this man.” “I was mourning the death of my ability to hold this man accountable.” Giuffre was one of six Epstein accusers interviewed on the program, a clip of which aired on NBC’s “Nightly News” Thursday evening. They were part of a group of nearly two dozen Epstein accusers wh...

Mets waiting to decide on Mickey Callaway’s future

CINCINNATI — As the Mets sit on the fringe of National League wild-card contention, questions pertaining to next season have been placed on hold. Included is whether manager Mickey Callaway will return in 2020 to complete the final year of his contract. Multiple organizational sources have indicated in recent days that Callaway’s future won’t be determined until after the Mets are finished playing, whether that is next Sunday in the regular-season finale or at an even later point, should the team erase a three-game deficit in the wild-card race and reach the postseason. Callaway won’t necessarily be immune from a pink slip should the Mets reach the postseason. Likewise, it appears he isn’t automatically a goner if the Mets finish short of the playoffs. To get an idea of the organization’s perspective, consider that club officials pegged the Mets as a 92-win team before the season began. The closer the Mets get to that number in these final 10 games could set the vibe as to whether ...

Saudi owner of English soccer team defends ‘really good’ Bin Laden family

The owner of a soccer team in England’s top division defended the Bin Laden family and suggested that he would be open to doing business with them in the future. Saudi Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad recently took full ownership of Sheffield United following a court battle against his former co-owner Kevin McCabe, who was forced to sell his 50 percent stake in the newly-promoted club. During a news conference on Thursday, the new owner was asked about his links to the Bin Laden family. “Every family may have one bad person but they are a very respectable family,” Prince Abdullah said in reference to infamous terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden. “I have not done business with them in the past but I will be very happy to do business with them. The Bin Laden family is not a disgraced name or something that I should hide.” He added, “When I see the Bin Laden family as a dirty name. I get really offended.” Bin Laden, the onetime leader...

Yankees clinch AL East with 100th win of the season

They Yankees are champions of the AL East. With a 9-1 win over the Angels on Thursday in the Bronx, the Yankees captured their first division crown since 2012, claimed a playoff berth and won their 100th game of the season. Masahiro Tanaka looked playoff-ready with a one-run, four-hit, six-strikeout showing over seven innings, while Brett Gardner and DJ LeMahieu provided the early offense with home runs. Still left on the Yankees’ to-do list, after taking two of three from the Angels: out-dueling the Astros and Dodgers in a battle for the best record in MLB, which would ensure home-field advantage throughout the postseason. NYPD gifts VP a ‘Pence 20’ jersey

Members of the NYPD’s semi-pro football team gifted Vice President Mike Pence a No. 20 jersey — a reference to the 2020 presidential campaign — when he stopped by One Police Plaza on Thursday, sources said. Pence held up the navy blue football jersey and posed for a photograph inside police headquarters with Commissioner O’Neill and other members of the department on Thursday afternoon, according to law-enforcement sources. The vice president made his appearance after members of the NYPD’s football team wrote to the White House to request a visit after they won the National Public Safety Football League championship on June 21. The football team got a message back weeks later, informing them a White House visit wasn’t in the cards, but that Pence could come see the team during his trip to the Big Apple, sources said. During his visit, Pence thanked the team for trying to visit President Trump in D.C. Pence said he “very much appreciated that we got a letter at the White House” re...

Sidney Moorer guilty of kidnapping missing woman

A South Carolina man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for kidnapping his former mistress who hasn’t been seen for nearly six years. Sidney Moorer was found guilty Wednesday on charges stemming from the December 2013 disappearance of Heather Elvis, a 20-year-old hostess who went missing from Myrtle Beach. Moorer, 43, and the young woman allegedly had an affair before she vanished and abandoned her car at a local boat landing. Prosecutors allege that cellphone records put the defendant and his wife, Tammy Moorer, at the scene of her disappearance. But the defense argued that there’s no DNA evidence that links the couple to the case. Tammy Moorer was sentenced to 60 years in prison in October 2018 on kidnapping and conspiracy charges in the case. ‘New Amsterdam’ season 2 opener deals with tragedy’s aftermath

Tuesday’s season premiere of “New Amsterdam” weaves the fatal ambulance crash that ended Season 1 with its emotional and physical toll on the show’s lead characters. “I think the trajectory of this season is about grief and recovery,” says series creator David Schulner. “The [ambulance] accident … has forced each character to re-evaluate their lives — even for characters who weren’t directly involved in the crash, like Iggy (Tyler Labine), who makes a shocking announcement to his husband. “Every character is going to have a ‘Come to Jesus’ moment, for lack of a better phrase, with the aftermath of the accident.” NBC’s hospital drama — one of last season’s few freshman success stories — will continue its three narrative threads: series protagonist Dr. Max Goodwin’s (Ryan Eggold) ongoing battle with throat cancer, while running Manhattan’s New Amsterdam hospital, and juggling fatherhood duties. (His wife, Georgia, gave birth to daughter Luna in last season’s finale.) In Tuesday’s op...

President Trump and Mark Zuckerberg have White House meeting

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg met with President Trump at the White House on Thursday after spending the afternoon talking to lawmakers on Capitol Hill, the company said in a statement. Zuckerberg had a “constructive” meeting with Trump after speaking with lawmakers about internet regulation, Facebook said. “Mark is in Washington, D.C., meeting with policymakers to hear their concerns and talk about future internet regulation,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement. “He also had a good, constructive meeting with President Trump at the White House today,” the spokesperson added. President Trump tweeted about the meeting and included an image from the Oval Office on Thursday night. “Nice meeting with Mark Zuckerberg of @Facebook in the Oval Office today,” Trump wrote. Since taking office in 2016, Trump has repeatedly criticized Facebook, claiming the social media platform favors liberals while censoring conservatives who post on the site. Most recently, he tweeted that the ...

Man demanded his tea with no frills from the Queen herself

One worker at Buckingham Palace found out first hand what it’s like to get the royal treatment. A builder who was refurbishing a desk at the legendary residence had a bizarre in encounter, when he paused to order a spot of tea and suddenly realized Queen Elizabeth had delivered the drink herself, according to an upcoming documentary called “Secrets of the Royal Palaces,” The Sun reported. The contractor was working beneath the desk in one of the palace’s private rooms, when a voice called out asking if he’d like some tea, ex-royal upholsterer Kevin Andrews, who knew the worker, told the show. “Yeah, in a mug. Two sugars. Builders’ tea. I don’t want any of that nonsense I had the last time I was here, all that fine china and all that saucer stuff,” the worker said. The woman who took his order returned a few minutes later. “I’ve put your tea on the table,” she said. The man looked up from underneath the desk and saw the Queen’s outline as she left him to continue his work. The f...

Trump to get military options over Saudi oil attacks

President Trump will be given a broad range of military options on Friday for responding to the recent attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities, according to a new report. The Pentagon will present Trump with a list of targets for airstrikes inside Iran, among other measures, The Associated Press said Friday evening, citing officials familiar with the matter. Trump will also be warned during the White House meeting that any military action could lead to war, the AP said. Meanwhile, the Pentagon is considering sending additional weapons and other resources to the Middle East to increase America’s military presence there, the Wall Street Journal reported. The build-up could include additional anti-missile batteries, another squadron of jet fighters and added surveillance equipment, as well as a commitment to keeping an aircraft carrier and other warships in the region for the foreseeable future, according to the Journal. Iran has denied any involvement in Saturday’s missile and dron...

Facebook worker dies after jumping from building at Silicon Valley HQ

A Facebook employee died Thursday after jumping from the fourth floor of a building at the company’s Silicon Valley headquarters, police and reports said. The man leapt from a building at the tech giant’s Menlo Park, Calif. campus at around 11:30 a.m., police said. A preliminary investigation found no signs of foul play, cops said. A Facebook spokeswoman confirmed the incident and said the company was reaching out to the worker’s family. “We were saddened to learn that one of our employees passed away at our Menlo Park headquarters earlier today,” the spokeswoman said in a statement. The staffer was a full-time software engineer at Facebook, a source told Bloomberg. Over 50 horses saved at flooded Texas ranch amid heavy storms

Farmhands and volunteers fought to rescue more than 50 horses trapped in chest-deep water at a horse ranch north of Houston, Texas on Thursday, as heavy thunderstorms caused “catastrophic” flooding in the region. Video of the soggy rescue, posted on Twitter and aired on news outlets in Texas, shows the would-be rescuers at the Cypress Trails Equestrian Center in Humble, Texas, fighting to get horses through the murky, rising waters — as buildings on the horse farm are seen entirely inundated. One woman is seen swimming to get to some of the stranded horses on a flooded nearby field. Zach Karrenbrock, who shot video of the attempted rescue, told WCNC-TV that currents from the swollen Cypress Creek made getting to the animals more difficult. Remnants of Tropical Rainstorm Imelda, which made landfall south of Houston, has spawned thunderstorms that have covered the region in heavy downpours and widespread flooding. Meteorologists said up to 55 inches of rain could fall in some are...

City makes a splash with E. River pool plan

A city agency made a splash Wednesday with its call for a public pool in the East River — a plan that could return swimming to the urban estuary for the first time in over 100 years. “I’m excited this is finally getting some attention!” gushed Jasmine Blake, who has worked on behalf of public housing residents with an organization called +POOL that plans to submit a proposal for a floating, Olympic-sized lap swimming facility. The Economic Development Corporation, a quasi-public agency controlled by the mayor, put out a “request for expressions of interest” to groups able to “developing, installing, and operating a self-filtering swim facility to be located in the East River off lower Manhattan.” Operators would have to provide a safe, financially sustainable recreational access to clean water, according to EDC. The news organization The City first reported EDC’s appeal. Kara Meyer’s +POOL originally pitched the idea of a plus sign-shaped “giant strainer dropped in the river” eigh...
