Yankees clinch AL East with 100th win of the season

They Yankees are champions of the AL East.

With a 9-1 win over the Angels on Thursday in the Bronx, the Yankees captured their first division crown since 2012, claimed a playoff berth and won their 100th game of the season.

Masahiro Tanaka looked playoff-ready with a one-run, four-hit, six-strikeout showing over seven innings, while Brett Gardner and DJ LeMahieu provided the early offense with home runs.

Still left on the Yankees’ to-do list, after taking two of three from the Angels: out-dueling the Astros and Dodgers in a battle for the best record in MLB, which would ensure home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
