Giants’ Paul Perkins sending message to this regime

The current Giants regime didn’t draft Paul Perkins. It wasn’t around when he became the team’s starting running back two years ago or flashed potential as a rookie the season before. So, consider Friday night, when Perkins amassed 65 yards of offense in a preseason victory over the Bears, the executives’ and coaching staff’s introduction to what he can do. “I went out and showed them,” Perkins said following Sunday’s practice. “Talking is only going to take you so far. They want to see proof.” After a poor opener in which Perkins fumbled and picked up just 9 yards on four carries, he bounced back. He ran six times for 35 yards and caught two passes for 30 yards, including a 26-yard reception when he took a short Daniel Jones pass and made it into much more. “It was cool, it was definitely the most I’ve played in a while,” he said. “I feel I can always keep improving, keep getting my stamina better. “It was big. Whenever you can have a couple of big runs and explosive plays, it’s...

Aaron Judge, Yankees give Gardner dugout antics new meaning

Aaron Judge seems to be one of the few Yankees not beefing with the umpires lately. But without saying a word, he still may have given the Bombers their latest rallying cry with Sunday’s homage to Brett Gardner’s bat-banging. Yes, this has become a thing. After both his hits in Sunday’s 8-4 loss to Cleveland, Judge looked right into the Yankees’ dugout and mimicked holding a bat and banging it on the dugout roof, as Gardner often does. Gardner had been one of three Yankees ejected on Saturday, tossed by first base umpire Phil Cuzzi for banging his bat on the dugout ceiling. Before Sunday’s series finale, Aaron Boone said he spoke with Gardner and warned him that umpires might be eyeing him specifically to see if he keeps banging his bat. So he didn’t. Instead, when the Bleacher Creatures chanted Gardner’s name during roll call, he pretended to bang his bat on the dugout roof. Then Judge did him one better, mimicking the motion after his third-inning single and again after his nint...

‘a good 100 kills would be nice’

A Florida man who recently lost his job and got dumped by his girlfriend threatened to carry out a mass shooting over the weekend — telling his ex that “a good 100 kills would be nice,” according to cops. “I wanna open fire on a large crowd of people from over 3 miles away,” said Tristan Scott Wix, 25, in an alleged text message to his ex. “I’d wanna break a world record for longest confirmed kill ever,” the young man added, according to police. “I need a spotter.” Wix, a resident of Daytona Beach, was arrested Friday in Volusia County and charged with making threats to commit a mass shooting. The local sheriff’s office revealed his text messages in a press release. “A school is a weak target,” Wix allegedly said. “Id be more likely to open fire on a large crowd of people…I already have a location (laughing cry face emoji) is that bad?” At one point, cops said he flat-out acknowledged that he could be arrested for his words. “Ah well even if you told someone, me saying I wanna d...

Matt Harvey was really nervous for his minor league start

The Dark Knight rose for one night. Matt Harvey turned in a strong performance in his first start for the Athletics’ Triple-A Las Vegas affiliate on Saturday. The former Met, who signed a minor league deal with Oakland last week, allowed just two hits and struck out five over four scoreless innings in the Aviators’ 6-5 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes. “I was pretty nervous,” Harvey told 8 News Now , CBS’s affiliate in Las Vegas. “I haven’t been nervous in a while for a game, but I think I texted my dad or somebody and was like, man I’m actually pretty nervous for this.” Harvey was released by the Angels on July 21 after going 7-7 with a 4.50 ERA in 24 starts. He is now trying to earn a return to the majors for an A’s team that is 1 ½ games out of the second AL wild-card. The one-time Mets ace hasn’t truly rediscovered his Dark Knight form since having thoracic outlet surgery in 2016. “You want to do so well,” Harvey said. “You want to get back to where I was and if not, figu...

Exec’s style puts HBO streaming plan in peril: critics

Plans by HBO’s new parent company to launch a Netflix rival is coming under fire from insiders — many of whom are pointing the finger at their new boss, John Stankey. Critics told The Post that AT&T’s plans to launch a new streaming service to compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon are off to a rocky start — and has led to clashes between HBO staffers and Stankey, who heads AT&T’s new entertainment division, WarnerMedia. “He thinks he knows a lot more about the business than he does,” one former HBO executive said of Stankey. “He is not a pleasant person to work around.” Shortly after AT&T executives revealed plans were in the works for a new streaming service last November, HBO execs started peppering Stankey with questions, one former employee said. “We’d say: ‘We don’t understand the plan. Tell us what you’re doing,’ ” a former HBO employee said, adding that HBO’s culture before AT&T acquired it was one of questioning. Fed up with the questions, Stankey c...

How to choose your cinema subscription service

Late last month, Regal Cinemas announced its competitor to AMC Stubs A-List, the movie ticket subscription service from the nation’s largest theater chain. On the surface, Regal Unlimited seems similar — if not better — than AMC’s offering. However, the two subscriptions are far from clones of each other. Whether you’re debating which service to join for the first time or are considering jumping ship from AMC, there are a lot of factors to consider. Here’s The Post’s breakdown on some of the most important factors: How many movies can you see? AMC A-List: This pass gives you up to three films per week, without any restrictions. There are no surcharges for IMAX and 3D screenings. There is a 12 films- per- month limit. Regal Unlimited: The service bills itself as allowing you to “watch as many movies as you want, as many times as you want, whenever you want.” How much does it cost? AMC A-List: After initially launching at $19.95 per month, AMC A-List has hiked its prices to $23...

Ohio man arrested for threatening to shoot up Jewish center

Police in Ohio arrested a white nationalist for allegedly threatening to shoot up a Jewish community center in an Instagram video — and seized an arsenal of weapons from his parent’s home that included two AR-15 style rifles, bulletproof armor and a ton of ammunition. James Patrick Reardon, 20, was charged Saturday with telecommunications harassment and aggravated menacing for allegedly posting a chilling clip of a man firing multiple rounds from a rifle in the dark, as sirens and screams can be heard in the background, WYTV reported. The post tagged the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown and the caption read: “Police identified the Youngstown Jewish Family Community shooter as local white nationalist Seamus O’Reardon.” That name was a pseudonym Reardon used online, New Middletown police said. “He was implying that he was going to be identified as the shooter of the Jewish Center,” police chief Vince D’egidio told WFMJ. The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force raided Reardon’s mother...

Tiger Woods’ season ends, misses out on Tour Championship

Tiger Woods’ season that was once filled with promise is over. Woods failed to qualify for the Tour Championship after finishing 38th at the BMW Championship, which was won by Justin Thomas on Sunday. The 43-year-old Woods was a long shot to crack the top 30 going into the final round of the BMW Championship, and he closed with a 72. East Lake last year marked his first victory in five years, capping his return from four back surgeries. The special achievement was replaced some six months later by his Masters victory this spring. There was hope Woods would build off that stunning Masters win, but it never happened. “It’s disappointing,” Woods said. “Last year culminated in a pretty special moment for me and would have been nice to go back there.” Meanwhile, Thomas put himself in position to win the FedEx Cup. Staked to a six-shot lead, Thomas spent more time Sunday worrying about what could go wrong than ending 12 months without winning. And right when it started to go wrong, T...

What’s next for Zack Wheeler after another rough Mets outing

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Zack Wheeler is ready to pile on some extra homework. After a second straight subpar performance Sunday, the Mets right-hander said he probably needs a session watching video with pitching startegist Jeremy Accardo to figure out what’s causing his struggles. “I felt off mechanically, but that was the past two starts,” Wheeler said after the Mets beat the Royals 11-5. “I think we’ll try to figure something out, just watch some video and see if I can notice anything and just work off of that.” Wheeler was removed after five innings in which he allowed four runs, one unearned, on four hits and one walk. In his previous outing, against the Braves, he surrendered five earned runs on 12 hits over five innings. In his first two starts after the July 31 trade deadline, Wheeler combined to pitch 15 straight scoreless innings against the White Sox and Marlins. Manager Mickey Callaway indicated Wheeler might have been tired in the middle innings, but the pitcher said that...

Le’Veon Bell finally gets Jets debut date

Jets fans will have to wait until the regular season to see new running back Le’Veon Bell in action. Coach Adam Gase said Sunday night that Bell will not play in the preseason. “I was about 99 percent sure heading into the preseason,” Gase said of the decision. “It was all based off how he practiced, conditioning, all those types of things. We talked about it before we started. I told him I wanted to increase the reps last week. We’re going to do the same thing this week.” The Jets face the Saints on Saturday at MetLife Stadium in their third preseason game and then finish the preseason against the Eagles at home on Aug. 29. The question whether Bell would see any time in the preseason has been one that hung over the Jets’ training camp. The team signed him to a four-year, $52.5 million deal this offseason. Bell did not play at all in 2018, sitting out the season because of a contract standoff with the Steelers. There was some thought Bell should shake off the rust in a game, but...

The Giants defense has its way with Saquon Barkley

Highlights from Giants practice on Sunday: Something Good The first-team defensive line was impressive, frequently pushing back or standing up the first-team offensive line in running plays, leaving little room for running back Saquon Barkley and others to maneuver. Something Bad Receivers Bennie Fowler III and Russell Shepard each had drops in team drills, which is worth following. They will be needed to produce with Golden Tate suspended the first four games of the regular season. Giants”]Caught my eye Tight end CJ Conrad made the catch of the day, a leaping grab from Alex Tanney in traffic during team drills. That play will stand out in the film room. Keep up with the Jones It was a quiet day for Daniel Jones, who saw limited reps behind Eli Manning, and missed on a few passes down the field. However, he continued to get rid of the ball quickly, mostly in checkdowns to his running backs. Injury report WR Sterling Shepard (left thumb) practiced without a yellow non-contact...

Prince Andrew ‘appalled’ by Epstein sex abuse claims

Britain’s Prince Andrew on Sunday broke his silence about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein — calling the suggestion that he participated in any of his pedophile pal’s behavior “abhorrent.” The statement from Buckingham Palace came after the Daily Mail published footage from 2010 that showed the Duke of York waving goodbye to a brunette woman from inside Epstein’s Upper East Side mansion. “[Andrew] has been appalled by the recent reports of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes,” said the statement to The Daily Telegraph. “His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behavior is abhorrent.” The 59-year-old royal is currently on vacation in the Spanish resort of Sotogrande with his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, according to UK papers. He was spotted going to church with his mother, Queen Elizabeth II last weekend in Scotland. Photos showed him grinning widely — despite having been accused of grop...

Jeffrey Epstein once attended party wearing ‘Screw U’ slippers

Jeffrey Epstein once showed up to a party at a Palm Beach mansion wearing pricey black-velvet slippers — one embroidered with a screw and the other with a large “U” stitched on it, Fox Business reported Sunday. “We all got the message,” one attendee of the 2015 fete told the outlet. “Jeffrey couldn’t care less about what we thought about him or who he was with.” The luncheon took place soon after Epstein was released from Palm Beach County Jail, where he’d served a 13-month sentence for two counts of solicitation of prostitution, one involving a minor — with much of the time on work release. The multimillionaire financier, 66, was awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges when he hanged himself in a Lower Manhattan lockup Aug. 10. At the time of the 2015 party, Epstein had apparently been taking a walk around his swanky Florida neighborhood with a much-younger woman when he decided to drop in to say hi to the host, a wealthy entrepreneur who lived a couple doors down from ...
