Panthers QB Cam Newton exits game with foot injury

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton left Thursday night’s exhibition game against New England in the first quarter with a foot injury. The team announced that he would not return. The 2015 NFL MVP was playing for the first time since Dec. 17, when the team shut him down for the last two games of the season because of shoulder fatigue that prevented him from throwing the ball downfield. He had arthroscopic surgery in January and did not play in the first two preseason games. Newton appeared to be injured when he was sacked for a loss of 8 yards by Adam Butler on a third-and-10 from the Carolina 31. It was one of two Patriots sacks while Newton was in the game. Kyle Allen took over at quarterback in the second quarter. Pitbull owner charged with murder after dog mauls girl

A Detroit man’s three pitbulls escaped from his yard and mauled a nine-year-old girl to death this week — and the owner was charged with the girl’s murder on Thursday, authorities said. Wayne County Prosecutors claim Pierre Cleveland, 33, left the pooches alone in his backyard on Monday, behind a loose, damaged fence, even though he knew they were vicious. “The allegations are that the defendant was harboring dogs he knew to be dangerous, he knew to be aggressive,” said assistant prosecuting attorney Barbara Lanning, according to The Detroit Free Press. The side door to Cleveland’s garage was also open, leading to an alley where the child, Emma Hernandez, was attacked, authorities said. The dogs apparently broke out and pounced on the girl as she rode her bike with her 13-year-old brother in their Southwest Detroit neighborhood, according to Click On Detroit. A neighbor tried to stop the rampage by throwing a bricks at the pitbulls, to no avail. The child was left with bites all...

Top law firm faces IRS crackdown for botched pay packages

Two powerful Wall Street investment bankers could be on the hook for millions of dollars in back taxes and penalties after one of the world’s most prestigious law firms botched their pay packages — and then left them in the dark about the error for years, The Post has learned. The two bankers — Michael Kramer and Derron Slonecker — face an IRS crackdown on $10.4 million in compensation after their bank’s law firm, Weil, Gotshal & Manges, screwed up a deadline for routine paperwork, according to sources and a report Weil commissioned on the matter. It’s unclear what steps Weil took to inform Kramer and Slonecker about the error, but there is evidence indicating that the law firm may have failed to disclose it to the parties — including their client, investment bank Perella Weinberg Partners — in a timely fashion. The NYC law firm commissioned a report on the error in 2017, which cleared them of wrongdoing, according to a copy obtained by The Post. But the report didn’t include m...

New ‘Pro’ iPhones a delight for photo lovers

Apple fans will soon have three new iPhones to choose from. The Cupertino, Calif., tech giant is gearing up to unveil a trio of new models at its annual product showcase in September, including two that will be dubbed “Pro” iPhones, according to a new report. The two “Pro” phones — successors to the iPhone XS and XS Max handsets — will feature a new, third rear-facing camera that will be able to capture wide-angle photos and video, according to Bloomberg. The two “Pro” phones will also have the highest resolution photos of any iPhone, and will see improved results in low-light situations, Bloomberg reported. The new phones will also be able to capture three photos at once — and then combine the images to create the best-possible image. The sequel to the cheaper iPhone XR, meanwhile, will receive a second rear camera, which will allow it to capture true portrait mode photos rather than digitally manipulated ones. Unlike 2017’s iPhone X and last year’s iPhone XS, the “Pro” iPhone ...

Doctor who did brain studies for sex cult Nxivm loses license

The doctor who performed controversial brain studies for the sex cult Nxivm had his license revoked by the New York State Health Department, a report said Thursday. Dr. Brandon Porter, who performed unsanctioned research including a “fright study” for Nxivm, had his license taken away due to his work for the Albany-based cult, according to NBC New York. Porter resigned as a general practitioner at Albany’s St. Peter’s Hospital in 2017 after the allegations about his work with Nxivm became public, the report said. The cult’s “Grandmaster” Keith Raniere, 58, was convicted of sex trafficking in June following a harrowing seven-week trial. During the trial prosecutors painted him as a calculating predator who led a secret master-slave group in which women were branded with his initials, starved, and ordered to have sex with him. Raniere faces life behind bars. Credit: Source link The post Doctor who did brain studies for sex cult Nxivm loses license appeared first on Fox USA Live...

Manufacturing slowdown, Fed mess stall market rally

Wall Street’s recent efforts to rally following last week’s recession scare was thwarted Thursday by a bevy of bad news, including the first signs of a manufacturing slowdown in 10 years. Stocks started the day off strong on growing signs of a confident US consumer — thanks to stellar earnings reports from Dick’s Sporting Goods and BJ’s Wholesale Club. But stocks faltered later in the morning after Kansas City Federal Reserve President Esther George said she disagreed with the Fed’s decision to cut interest rates last month. Soon thereafter, the yield curve between 10-year and 2-year Treasury notes inverted for the third time in the last week. Such inversions — when the 10-year yield falls below the 2-year yield — have preceded all seven recessions of the last 50 years. Throwing more cold water on investors’ attempt to push markets higher was key manufacturing data for August that signaled a “contraction” for the first time since September 2009. But in a sharp turnaround from las...

Spanish pervert busted for snapping over 500 up-skirt photos

A serial perv who allegedly snapped hundreds of up-skirt photos was busted by Spanish authorities who tracked online activity to catch him in the act, a report said. The Spanish National Police arrested the man in Madrid on Wednesday while he was snapping an illicit shot using a camera hidden in a backpack, CNN reported. They have since tied him to more than 500 incidents and believe he uploaded 283 clips of the footage to porn sites. “The detained man generally recorded his victims in busy areas such as the metro before following them to the street,” the police said in a statement, according to CNN. He “sometimes even introducing himself to them in supermarkets or shops in order to obtain better shots of their intimate areas, which he recorded in close proximity.” The suspect, who is originally from Colombia, acted “compulsively” and targeted minors, authorities said. Police tracked him down after they found the videos online, which had received millions of views, according to...

WWE stars Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch are engaged

Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch are now a tag team for life. Lynch, whose real name is Rebecca Quin, announced the WWE superstars’ engagement on social media Thursday night. The picture she posted was of her standing next to a shirtless Rollins on a rocky beach with her hand on his chest to show off the ring. “Happiest day of my life. For the rest of my life,” she wrote. The couple’s relationship was public in April when they attended a concert together. They had a program together on WWE television that culminated in a mixed-tag-team match. They defeated Lacey Evans and Baron Corbin at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view in July to retain their respective titles. Lynch, the Raw women’s champion, is one of the industry’s hottest characters and Rollins, whose real name is Colby Lopez, is the Universal champion and won the Raw tag team belts with Braun Strowman this Monday on Raw, making him one of WWE’s most prominent stars. Lynch appeared headed for a match at Clash of Champions with a re...

Cal State Fullerton suspect arrested for fatally stabbing man

A Cal State Fullerton staffer was arrested in the fatal stabbing of his co-worker after spending two days on the run, police said Thursday. Chuyen Vo, 51, was cuffed at his home in Huntington Beach Wednesday at about 10:15 p.m., Fullerton Police Chief Robert Dunn said in a press conference. Authorities say Vo killed Steven Shek Keung Chan, a 57-year-old administrator at the college, who was found dead inside his car in a campus parking lot Monday, with stab wounds all over his body. Surveillance video caught Vo running from the parking lot and he was later seen fleeing in a black sedan, police said. A backpack cops believe belonged to Vo was found at the scene, containing a blade and items that could be used in a kidnapping, including zip ties and wigs — as well as an incendiary device. Police said Vo injured his hands during the attack and may have left behind DNA evidence. The victim and his alleged attacker were co-workers in the university’s division overseeing International...

It’s still Federer-Nadal-Djokovic vs. the field in US Open

Andy Roddick says he “wonders” sometimes if he retired too soon seven years ago at age 30. After all, he’s seen the “Big 3’’ continue their excellence well into their 30s. But then Roddick returns to reality. He realizes this trio — Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal — are superhuman, even unappreciated as far as their place in history. “I had some left in the tank,’’ Roddick told The Post on Thursday at a promotional event. “But these guys are dominant. If anything, they’ve gotten better over the last seven years since I retired. You always wonder. But I’m really happy with what I’ve done since retirement. I don’t have any regrets. “I’m certainly happy to be a fan and watch these guys march to the record books. It’s an amazing time. I hope people are appreciating what they’re seeing.’’ Again, the U.S. Open is the Big 3 versus the rest of the field when the tournament kicks off Monday. Djokovic, Nadal and Federer are the top three seeds — led by defending champion Djokovi...

MLB bans players from Venezuelan league

CARACAS – Major League Baseball will not give permission for players to participate in the upcoming Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) season, three sources close to the Venezuelan league said on Thursday, attributing the move to U.S. sanctions. Venezuelan players who play for MLB’s 30 teams or their hundreds of minor league affiliates often return to their homeland to play for one of the LVBP’s eight teams during the winter season, which begins in October. Players from other nationalities also participate. But earlier this month Washington froze Venezuelan state assets and threatened to impose sanctions on any company that does business with President Nicolas Maduro’s government, which is accused of human rights violations and has overseen an economic collapse. Last year, the LVBP received a $12 million sponsorship from state oil company PDVSA, which itself was targeted by sanctions in January. A spokesman for the LVBP said the league had not received any official com...

Mets gaining confidence from strong Citi Field showings

Welcome to the new Citi Field, where wild jersey-ripping celebrations, the home team mashing and, most importantly, wins have become the norm. As the Mets chase down a playoff spot that seemed like a fantasy at the All-Star break, they have made Citi Field their own playground. In a stadium they have struggled to hit and win at in past seasons, they have done nothing but hit and win of late. “This place is a completely different place when we’re playing well,” Michael Conforto said. “I think we just feed off the energy in this ballpark.” Before Thursday’s series finale against the Indians, the Mets had won 12 of their last 13 home games. They were 36-21 at Citi Field this season — the sixth-best home winning percentage in the majors and one win shy of their total in all of 2017 or 2018. The best news? Beginning Thursday, 24 of the Mets’ remaining 36 games in the regular season are at Citi Field — the most of any team in the major leagues. “I think there’s obviously a confidence h...

Mary J. Blige and Nas remember losing their radio virginity

Their songs have been spun countless times on the radio over the years, but Mary J. Blige and Nas — co-headlining the Royalty tour at Barclays Center on Wednesday — will never forget the first time they heard themselves on the airwaves. Mary J. Blige: “The first time I ever heard ‘You Remind Me,’ I was on the West Side Highway with one of my girlfriends in their jeep. It came on the radio, and I just was like, ‘Whoa!’ DJ Red Alert played it [on 98.7 KISS-FM]. Red Alert broke it, and after that, the song was just everywhere. And I was still living in the projects! It was crazy; it was an amazing moment. I just thanked God right away, ’cause I knew something had happened.” Nas: “I was walking around my neighborhood [in Queensbridge], and there was a bunch of older guys on the corner. I thought I heard ‘Live at the Barbecue’ — a Main Source record with me at the top — coming on, and I was trying to get these guys’ attention to listen, but they were lit . . . so I couldn’t even [let t...

College kid sends mom pic of room, forgets about kinky cuffs

Her face is fifty shades of red. A California college student was embarrassed beyond belief when she sent her mom a photo of her new bedroom —and forgot to remove a set of kinky handcuffs dangling from the headboard of her bed, she admitted on social media. “Mum’s been asking for pics of my new room … finally sent one … I’m so stupid,” Ella Martine, of Orange County, wrote in a Twitter post , which featured a screenshot of the text message convo with her mother. Martine said her mom had begged her for weeks to send a photo of her tidy new room — which is decorated with a hanging planter, nightstand and wooden bed — but she was, well, all tied up. When she finally fired off the rushed shot, her mom at first sent a message back saying, “nice” along with a thumbs-up emoji. But then she looked closer and added, “Except for the handcuffs??? What’s up with that[?]” Martine first tried to pass the sex toy off as part of a film project — but mama didn’t buy it. She demanded the co-ed “...
