Delivery guy’s ‘theft’ of 1,020 treats takes the cake

This crook really takes the cake. A deliveryman stole nearly $90,000 worth of handmade cakes from a boutique Big Apple bakery touted by the likes of Martha Stewart and Oprah, a lawsuit alleges. David Lliviganay, 32, is accused of swiping 1,020 pricey pastries — which retail for up to $90 apiece — from his employer Lady M Confections’ Long Island City warehouse in the span of just four months. Lliviganay, who worked at the shop for two years, was caught on camera almost two dozen times going into the warehouse freezers empty-handed — and then sneaking out laden with up to eight black bags at a time believed to be packed with cakes, according to the suit filed in Queens civil court. He then loaded the luxury cakes into a shipping cart and discreetly wheeled them to his waiting Dodge truck, court papers charge. Lady M only learned someone was stealing its cakes when it was told unauthorized dealers were selling them on the cheap, according to the lawsuit filed last Tuesday. It spa...

Hurricane Dorian’s final gasp blows by Canada

Dorian’s heavy rains and 90 mph winds made one last slap at Canada on Sunday before the storm headed out to sea, where it’s finally expected to fizzle out by Tuesday. The former hurricane lashed Nova Scotia, leaving 80 percent of the province without power as electrical lines and trees were uprooted throughout the weekend, according to reports. More than 500,000 utility customers lost power during the storm and more than 400,000 were without electricity late Sunday. “This is an exercise of days, not hours,” Karen Hutt, CEO of Nova Scotia Power, said at a news conference, according to reports. “We’re operating in our worst-case scenario,” Hutt added. “We are still in a very dangerous situation in some parts of the province.” Now a post-tropical cyclone, Dorian was expected to be past Newfoundland early Monday — with only the sparsely populated, extreme northeast of Canada still under tropical-storm watches. Forecasters say it will be absorbed by another low-pressure system by Tue...

More Americans will die after Camp David talks cancelled

The Taliban on Sunday said that President Trump’s decision to call off a secret meeting that he had scheduled with the terror group’s leaders at Camp David “will lead to more losses to the US.” “Now that US President Trump has announced the suspension of negotiations with the Islamic Emirate, this would not harm anyone else but the Americans themselves,” the Taliban said in a statement. “This will further harm their credibility and will show and will their anti-peace stance in more clear way.” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that the US “anti-peace stance will be exposed to the world” and that “losses to lives and assets will increase” now that the talks with the terror leaders are off. “This will lead to more losses to the US,” Mujahid said. The failed negotiation talks — which were planned to take place at Camp David on Sunday — were first announced by President Trump in a tweet on Saturday night and were then confirmed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as being offici...

‘Haunted’ mansion in Australia on the market for only $1M

It’s the stuff of nightmares — and it could be yours for $1 million. A stunning historical mansion is up for sale in Australia — but it looks more like a something out of a horror movie. The current owners of the 28,000-sqare-foot Adelaide home, called Woodforde House and built in 1856, are huge Halloween fans who packed some of its rooms with terrifying mannequins and fake creepy crawlies — and the realtor is keeping them there as he attempts to sell the property. “The family of six best describe the fun and good times as Mrs Bates” in the Hitchcock movie “Psycho,” the listing says, adding that they wanted it to look like “the house on the hill.” “If you are a scaredy-cat, don’t come. Watch the cobwebs, and don’t wear a suit,” warns the listing for the house, which contains a small chapel, a roof-top viewing deck and two cellars. A portrait of shock-rocker Alice Cooper wearing a straight-jacket hangs on one of the walls, photos show. The creepy decor is being kept intact befor...

Mom arrested after 5-year-old son goes on late-night bicycle ride

A five-year-old boy went on a solo bicycle ride around Brooklyn late Saturday night — and his mother was arrested after it took her nearly 20 hours to report him missing, police said Sunday. Police found the child around 10:30 p.m. near East 55th St. and Linden Blvd. in East Flatbush while he was zipping around on his black and green bike with training wheels. The kid couldn’t tell police where he lived and didn’t have any contact information for his parents. Cops released his photo and a picture of his bike Sunday at around 1 p.m. in an attempt to reunite him with his family. Around 3 p.m., his mom, Nichol Spencer, went to the 67th Precinct to report him missing, police said. She told cops that she thought the boy was with his dad. Spencer, 45, was charged with acting in a manner to injure a child. She was waiting arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court Sunday night. The boy was placed in the care of the Administration for Children’s Services and will be assessed before being r...

Mike Tauchman exits Yankees game in never-ending injury saga

Mike Tauchman exited Sunday’s Yankees-Red Sox game in the fourth inning after coming up lame while corralling the ball in left field. Tauchman, who homered in the game and was 2-for-2 with two runs, was replaced by Cameron Maybin while the Yankees led 6-2. Tauchman appeared to hurt his left leg, though the extent of the injury is unclear at this time. Epitomizing the Yankees’ next-man-up mentality amid a slew of injuries, Tauchman entered Sunday hitting .271/.357/.484 with 12 home runs and 45 RBIs. Dolphins players already demanding trades in tanking war

Things are already getting ugly in Miami. The Dolphins opened the season with a demoralizing 59-10 loss to the Ravens on Sunday in Miami, and it reportedly sparked the start of a possible rebellion. A number of Dolphins players contacted their agents after the lopsided defeat and asked them to pursue a trade, according to Pro Football Talk, citing league sources. The report states the players believe the coaching staff – despite saying differently – aren’t serious about trying to compete and win. (The Dolphins responded to the outlet, saying they have not heard from any agents or players regarding a trade.) Losing would set Miami up for a high draft pick — likely college football quarterback prospects Justin Herbert (Oregon) and Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) — as they look to rebuild. The Dolphins and coach Brian Flores have denied the franchise is in tank mode, but moves like recently trading receiver Kenny Stills and tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Texans has certainly raised questions. ...

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson set on leaving the European Union

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will “keep to the plan” to leave the European Union and will not try to negotiate a deal to delay Britain’s departure, two allies said Sunday. Under a law that is expected to take effect Monday, Johnson (inset) must seek a delay from Brexit if Parliament fails to approve a divorce deal by Oct. 19. Johnson had vowed to leave the EU by Oct. 31 — with or without a deal. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Johnson will abide by the Brexit referendum passed in 2016 by forging ahead. “I do also think that on some of these key issues, people need to understand, and the voters get it, that we’ve got to keep to the plan,” Raab said. He said the bill approved by Parliament last week that Queen Elizabeth II is expected to sign into law Monday “is a bad piece of legislation.” “We will also want to test to the limit what it does actually lawfully require. We will look very carefully at the implications and our interpretation of it,” he said. Finance Minister ...

Patriots’ Tom Brady wants Antonio Brown to move in with him

Tom Brady invited Antonio Brown to move into his stunning Massachusetts mansion while the mercurial wide receiver gets settled in New England, NBC reported ahead of the Patriots’ season-opening matchup against the Steelers in Foxborough. Brown forced his way out of Oakland and was released Saturday. Later that same day, he signed a one-year contract worth up to $15 million with the Patriots. Given the time he was released, Brown was ineligible to suit up against Pittsburgh, his other former team. “I’m a million percent in,” Brady told team owner Robert Kraft of the signing, according to NBC. Of course the 42-year-old quarterback is because the seven-time Pro Bowler gives Brady one of the best wide receivers he’s ever had as the defending Super Bowl champions chase another ring. It’s unclear if Brown intends to take Brady up on the housing offer, though there is plenty of room in the 10,000-square-foot Brookline villa, which is currently listed for $39.5 million. (Brady has said n...

Their worst fears were realized

Grading the Giants after their 35-17, season-opening loss to the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Sunday: Offense There were 25 first downs and 440 total yards and it all added up to … not much. The offense directed by Eli Manning (30 of 44, 306 yards, 1 TD) managed only 17 points and was dreadful when it counted most, on third down (2 of 11 conversions). Saquon Barkley (11-120) was not stopped by the Cowboys — his own lousy defense kept him off the field and created too large a deficit to run the ball. This team cannot come close to winning with Barkley getting only 11 rushing attempts. Big game for Evan Engram (11-116, 1 TD). Two-minute drill at the end of the first half was a dink-and-dunk disaster. Grade: C. Defense The worst fears were realized. No pressure at all, no sacks of ultra-comfortable Dak Prescott (25 of 32, 405 yards, 4 TDs). Cowboys did not even need much from rusty Ezekiel Elliott (13-53, 1 TD) because their passing game completely dominated an alarmingly shaky se...

Rafael Nadal beats Daniil Medvedev for title

Another Grand Slam down, one more to go. Second-seeded Rafael Nadal put the finishing touches on his 19th major championship — but it didn’t come easy — by defeating fifth-seeded Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 in the US Open men’s final at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday. The match lasted 4 hours and 51 minutes, the second longest final in US Open history. It marks Nadal’s fourth US Open crown and second in the past three years. The title moves him within one of Roger Federer’s record for Grand Slam championships, which the 33-year-old Nadal could reach next June at the French Open. Nadal has won a record 12 times at Roland-Garros. Credit: Source link The post Rafael Nadal beats Daniil Medvedev for title appeared first on Fox USA Live . from Fox USA Live https://ift.tt/2ZHvC5j

Times Square Elmo busted for groping 14-year-old tourist

A perv dressed as the furry red Muppet Elmo grabbed a 14-year-old girl’s buttocks after she approached him for a photo in Times Square, police said Sunday. Inocente Andrade-Pacheco, 54, was cuffed around 6:45 p.m. Saturday for allegedly groping the teenage tourist on Broadway near W. 46th Street as she posed for the picture with him and her parents. Bullied student’s UT shirt now an official design

A Florida student bullied for his homemade University of Tennessee t-shirt now has his design on official gear from the college. Laura Snyder, who is his fourth-grade teacher at Altamonte Elementary School, got the university’s attention after she took to Facebook on Wednesday about the bullying incident. She said that the unnamed student had been “SO EXCITED” to wear his hand-drawn design for the school’s college spirit day. “I was impressed that he took it one step further to make his own label,” she wrote on Facebook. But his classmates apparently didn’t have as nice of things to say about his shirt. “Some girls at the lunch table next to his (who didn’t even participate in college colors day) had made fun of his sign that he had attached to his shirt. He was DEVASTATED,” Snyder said. Snyder said in the post that she planned to buy him a UT shirt and asked friends whether they had any connections at the college to “make it a little extra special for him.” By the next day, he...

ICU nurse donates part of liver to save 8-year-old Wisconsin boy

This Wisconsin nurse went above and beyond her job description. Cami Loritz, an ICU nurse at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wis. this summer donated part of her liver for a transplant that saved an 8-year-old boy’s life, WBAY reported last week. “We can’t thank her enough. She’s a true miracle,” the kid’s mother, Ruth Auten, told the outlet. “We consider her one of us, one of our family.” Ruth’s son, Brayden Auten, got sick in April, and doctors at the Milwaukee Children’s Hospital said he had an aggressive virus that was attacking his liver. Ruth and her husband James Auten said they “just bawled our eyes out” when they learned Brayden needed a partial liver transplant. “We didn’t think it was going to get that far,” Ruth said. Desperate to find a donor, they posted Brayden’s story on Facebook and were flooded with responses. But no one that reached out was a match. “We’re waiting there and just watching him get sicker. It was tough,” said James Auten. But then, “we had t...

Sick boy who had ‘enough of life’ receives 10K birthday cards

A sick UK boy who told his mother that he’s had “enough of life” has received an outpouring of birthday wishes in an effort to lift his spirits, according to a report. Rhys Williams was sent 10,000 cards after his mom, Tanya, made headlines last week asking for help giving him hope ahead of his 14th birthday, the Mirror reported. Williams suffers from a rare skin condition that has limited his ability to walk and move — and had told his mother that he wished “a butterfly would come and take him away.” “The last few months, he’s had enough of life. He’s had enough of being in pain with the sores,” his mom said. “He just wants to give up, he doesn’t want to fight anymore.” She asked people to help cheer him up by sending birthday cards, prompting thousands of well-wishers to send messages to his Lancashire, England home, the outlet reported. “He is loving it, he is so happy,” Tanya told the Mirror. “It restores your faith in humanity.” Credit: Source link The post Sick boy who h...

AOC could be political neighbors with Ruben Diaz Sr.

He opposes abortion, has fought gay marriage and backed Republicans — and soon, City Councilman Ruben Diaz Sr. could be a political neighbor to far-left firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Diaz, known as much for his trademark cowboy hat as his socially-conservative leanings, is considered the favorite to succeed retiring Rep. Jose Serrano and capture The Bronx’s 15th District, which abuts the 14th District held by AOC. But political insiders told The Post they expect Ocasio-Cortez to leverage her profile in an effort to keep Diaz — a Democrat currently representing the South Bronx on the City Council — from ascending to national office. “If there’s a clear alternative to Diaz, AOC will certainly get involved,” said one progressive leader, who requested anonymity. Added gay-rights activist Allen Roskoff, head of the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, a progressive LGBT organization: “AOC will have a moral obligation to do whatever she can to stop Diaz. We can’t have an anti-choice...
