Man kills dad, brother and 2 others in 12-hour shooting spree

A California man went on a shooting rampage in the San Fernando Valley on Thursday, pumping bullets into six people, four of whom he killed — including his own father and brother, cops said. Gerry Dean Zaragoza, 26, started his “violent spree” in Canoga Park before heading over to North Hollywood, Sherman Oaks and Van Nuys — where he continued to target people before finally being arrested by LAPD officers. First, Zaragoza allegedly killed his 50-year-old father and 20-year-old brother at an apartment complex on Roscoe Boulevard around 2 a.m., according to police officials . He also allegedly wounded his mother, but she was expected to survive. Once in North Hollywood, the young man tracked down his ex-girlfriend and allegedly shot her at a gas station on Vineland, near the Burbank Airport. He also fired a round into a male gas station employee. Zaragoza’s ex wound up dying, but the worker lived and was rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries. Hours later, Zaragoza tar...

Eli Manning responds to Odell Beckham’s Giants jabs

Eli Manning is the latest Giants player to respond to Odell Beckham Jr.’s continued tirade against his former team. “This team has not been good for the last six years,” the Browns’ new star wide receiver told GQ in a story that caused plenty of stir all the way back in New Jersey this week. “I felt like I was the main reason at keeping that brand alive. They were getting prime-time games … Why? Because people want to see the show. You want to see me play.” Several Giants players have responded to his fiery interview, which came on the heels of highlight-reel receiver’s offseason of taking shots at ex-teammates and coaches. Beckham, who put on a show in his first practice with the Browns on Thursday, took several thinly veiled shots at Manning throughout the summer, though the veteran quarterback didn’t seem to worry much about them. “I don’t think they bothered me,” he said on NFL Network when asked about the GQ quotes. “You just kind of shake your head and laugh. … I won a few g...

Le’Veon Bell will do whatever it takes

He marches to the beat of his own drummer, the rapper who makes sweet music with a football in his hands. He is a big fish, a big personality with a big Instagram presence in the biggest pond, and his first day as a Jet went swimmingly for Le’Veon Bell. He was the best running back in the game before a bitter divorce with the Steelers left him missing the game he loves last season, and now he’s hoping this can be a marriage made in Super heaven. The Jets showed him the money, and a rejuvenated Bell cannot wait to pay them back and run himself ragged if it means he will be running the Jets to that elusive Super Bowl. He felt frisky enough to channel his inner Keyshawn Johnson when someone asked him Thursday if he is up for being given the career-high 400 touches (406, actually) he received in 2017. “I’m up for 500 if it’s going to take us to the Super Bowl,” Bell said. “It don’t matter how many touches I get, I’m just trying to win games. If I have 19 touches and we win a Super Bo...

‘Moulin Rouge!’ Broadway review: A spectacular jukebox musical

Who needs ecstasy when we’ve got “Moulin Rouge!”? That’s the effect of the fabulous new musical that opened Thursday night on Broadway: raucous sensory overload. From its sexy sword swallowers to the newly pumped-up pop songbook and from-the-loins dancing, the show’s as subtle as Liberace’s toy poodle: a glitter bomb on Broadway. The high begins the instant you walk into the theater, which set designer Derek McLane turned into the sort of uber-cool, members-only nightclub that keeps rejecting my application. Bathed in red light, four sultry, crystal-bedecked performers start singing “Lady Marmalade,” which cancan kicks off the story of a penniless American writer in Paris and his dangerous fling with a cabaret star. Just don’t show up looking for a Madame Tussauds’ wax replica of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film. Songs such as “El Tango de Roxanne,” “Come What May,” “Your Song” and “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” are still here, but they’re joined by about 70 party crashers: Walk the ...

Democratic impeachment fever dies down after Mueller hearing

The fever to impeach President Trump has stalled in the fractured House Democratic conference following special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony. Without any major bombshells from Mueller, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took Democrats into a six-week summer recess without initiating any proceedings. Pelosi is opposed to impeachment, in large part because a move to oust the president would be dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled Senate and could be a politically toxic issue for Democrats in swing districts. Pelosi advised Democrats to talk about impeachment if they need to boost their re-election prospects next year — but not in a way that challenged other members’ opposition to launching an impeachment effort. That’s because just 40 percent of House Democrats — a growing number, but not a majority — support impeachment, according to a floor vote last week. She said House Democrats instead will spend the summer focusing on bread and butter issues, not an impeachment inquiry....

Robby Anderson poised for big year

Robby Anderson’s goal: Take his game to the next level. The guy who may help him get there: Hines Ward. “He’s a great resource,” Anderson said Thursday. “He’s done it at a high level consistently. What else can I ask for? I’m picking his brain in every way.” The Steelers great, a four-time Pro Bowl receiver and two-time Super Bowl champion, is spending the summer at Jets training camp as a coaching intern, and Anderson is one player new coach Adam Gase hopes Ward can help. The two are working on Anderson’s conditioning, so he doesn’t tire out late in games, and becomes a tougher player to cover. Since becoming the Jets’ coach, Gase has talked up Anderson. He has stressed the importance of him becoming a more versatile receiver, not merely a big-play threat teams had to worry about beating them deep. “We want him to experiment with some different types of routes,” Gase said following the team’s first practice of training camp. “I know he can run a go-route; everybody knows that. W...

Amazon’s exploring WeWork space deal

WeWork wants an early Christmas present from Jeff Bezos: A big Amazon office lease at its empty former Lord & Taylor building, once home to famous holiday windows. The shared office space startup, which bought the Fifth Avenue building in January, has been in talks to rent as much as the entire 12-story building to Amazon, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. As The Post’s Lois Weiss reported on May 27, Amazon — which famously walked away from a regional headquarters deal in Long Island City in February — is beating the bushes all over town for more elbow room for its 5,000-strong workforce and more to come. Among the locations being scouted by Amazon are Brookfield’s soon-to-rise Two Manhattan West and Vornado’s Farley Post Office building project on Ninth Avenue, Weiss reported. Still, sources warned that talks might be used to strengthen Amazon’s hand in negotiations with other landlords as it searches for space. “Amazon plays it this close to the vest about real est...

Palm Beach sheriff is probing Jeffrey Epstein’s cushy jail stay

A criminal investigation has been launched into Jeffrey Epstein’s cushy 2008 jail stay in Florida — where he allegedly abused young girls while under a supervised “work release” program. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw announced the probe in a statement on Thursday night, saying “an active criminal investigation” had been opened in addition to the internal affairs probe that had been launched by his office last Friday. Democratic state Sen. Lauren Book had urged Gov. Ron DeSantis to authorize an investigation in a letter Monday, which reportedly prompted countless threats from people telling her to back off. The lawmaker pointed out how Epstein was allegedly allowed to leave his Palm Beach County Jail cell nearly every day of his 13-month sentence under a “work release” program. Lawyers for the financier’s accusers claim he instead spent his time at a private office — where he had “improper sexual contact” with women. Epstein, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to prostitution-rela...

Raging rep. to do-nothing Dems: Do your job

Frustrated by yet another House Judiciary Committee meeting about the border crisis, Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) stopped his opening statement yesterday to castigate his colleagues for doing nothing about it. The Democratic majority has not introduced any bills to address the flood of illegal immigrants, such as changing the asylum process. Collins said Democrats are happy to keep blasting President Trump in hearings without coming up with solutions themselves. An excerpt: In February, the Border Patrol apprehended 66,000 individuals. That number has been above 92,000 every month since. Peaking at over 132,000 in May alone. You know just last week, I was horrified and deeply affected when Secretary [Kevin] McAleenan told me that there are three ongoing cases where a small group of children, 5 to 8, in each case had been used by dozens of different adults to cross our border seeking release in the US. And my colleagues claim . . . . . . look, I’m gonna stop. I’m not going to read thi...

Saquon Barkley is the face of the Giants now

A few minutes into the Giants’ first practice of training camp, Saquon Barkley was doing a simple footwork drill when the crowd in the bleachers in East Rutherford, N.J., started chanting, “MVP … MVP.” Barkley acknowledged the chants with a wave and went back to work, preparing himself to build on his fabulous rookie season. “That’s a first,” Barkley said of the MVP chants. “I’m just grateful for the fans to show support and I’m grateful to be back on the field.” The Giants are Barkley’s team now. Odell Beckham Jr. is in Cleveland, and quarterback Eli Manning is on his way out. Barkley is the face of the franchise ready to push his team with his legs, heart and leadership in 2019. And he isn’t afraid to entertain the notion of being the league’s real MVP. “I think anything is possible,” he said. Barkley proved the Giants weren’t wrong in using the No. 2-overall pick in the 2018 draft to take the running back out of Penn State when critics suggested they should have taken a quarte...

Daniel Jones struggles on Day 1

He can remember back that far, for sure. So Eli Manning knows what Daniel Jones must do, above all else, and the sooner, the better. Manning had a famous last name, but when he arrived back in 2004, he was a rookie who had to show the older guys he could hang with them. “My goal was to come in and earn the respect of your teammates,’’ Manning said. “I think that’s very important, that’s my mindset as a high draft pick and quarterback.’’ This is the nascent stages of Jones’ development, and all eyes were on him Thursday as he took the field for the first time in an NFL training camp. The practice started at 2:45 p.m., and it did not take long — 3:18 p.m., to be exact — for Manning to feel the rush of Kareem Martin and throw the ball away, prompting a fan to shout “We want Daniel” on a sun-splashed afternoon. It was a day of downs and ups for Jones, who took his turn running the offense with the second team, with Manning in his accustomed spot with the starters. The first pass throw...

North Korea says test missile launch was a ‘solemn warning’

North Korea said on Thursday that it test fired two ballistic missiles over the ocean as a “solemn warning” over South Korea’s weapons development and expected military drills. The country’s state media also claimed that the projectiles were “a new-type tactical guided weapon” and attributed the revelation to leader Kim Jong Un. The message was directed to “South Korean military warmongers,” the statement said. North Korea is reportedly agitated over the South Korea’s planned military exercises with the US, claiming the drills prove the south’s hostility toward Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. The missiles fired Wednesday flew 267 miles over the Pacific Ocean. The launch was North Korea’s first since the historic border meeting and handshake between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim, where the two agreed to resume nuclear talks. Despite the agreement, North Korea-US nuclear talks haven’t picked up steam. Following the missile launch, UN Secretary-General Antonio...

Marriott shuttle-bus crashes near Seattle’s Sea-Tac Airport

One person was killed and seven others were injured Thursday when a car zoomed across a median at Seattle’s Sea-Tac Intentional Airport and rammed into a hotel shuttle bus. Officials believe the car was heading southbound on International Boulevard around 1 p.m. local time when it crossed the center line and hit the Seattle Airport Marriott shuttle, causing it to flip on its side, The Seattle Times reported. The body of the 45-year-old man who died was pulled from the under the rear passenger side of the bus shortly before 4 p.m. The shuttle’s windshield was smashed in the incident and it was missing its right side windows. Two injured people, including the car’s driver, were taken to Highline Medical Center. Two others, men ages 50 and 62, were taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Another two victims were taken to a third hospital and one person who was injured refused treatment. A total of eight passengers were on the shuttle at the time of the crash. The ...

‘Breakfast Club’ star Judd Nelson says kids deserve more respect

His most iconic role was a swaggering, trench-coated antihero, so it makes a certain amount of sense that Judd Nelson of “The Breakfast Club” would, eventually, be cast as a pirate. In the film “Dead Water,” out Friday, the actor plays a non-campy, modern variety: “We edge toward pirate without it being swashbuckling,” Nelson, 59, tells The Post. “I do have a damaged eye in it — very close to an eye patch.” Nelson happily plays the villain in the thriller, which also features Casper Van Dien. “I think villains tend to be more realistic in the sense that they make both good and bad decisions,” he says. “A lot of heroes, all the decisions they make are good ones.” This fall he’ll also appear in the war movie “Dauntless” alongside a fellow ’80s name, C. Thomas Howell, a longtime friend. After getting his start with the so-called Brat Pack in 1985’s “St. Elmo’s Fire,” Nelson worked steadily for decades in everything from drama (“New Jack City”), to sitcom (“Suddenly Susan”), to action ...

Woman gets ejected into boat’s propeller, dies — driver charged

A New Jersey woman got ejected from a moving boat and hurled into its propeller — suffering fatal injuries last weekend, cops said. The person who was operating the 18-foot Beachcraft vessel, Arthur Lesbirel III, was arrested and charged with boating under the influence, according to State Police officials. Iesha Thies, 39, was with Lesbirel and another individual last Sunday in Galloway Township when she somehow got thrown into the propeller. It’s unclear what caused her to be ejected, cops said. The Mays Landing woman suffered “major injuries” and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The other passenger, Robert Pruchnicki, wound up being arrested and charged for allowing Lesbirel to operate the boat while under the influence. Police were still investigating the incident on Thursday. Mets’ Michael Conforto has found his groove

There have been just five games in July where Michael Conforto hasn’t had a hit. The right fielder went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Mets’ 4-0 victory over the Padres on Thursday, securing back-to-back multi-hit performances and his fourth this month. After returning from a concussion sustained in a collision with Robinson Cano in May, it took Conforto some time to get back into the groove. The right fielder was inconsistent at the plate and struggled to hit with runners in scoring position. “[Conforto] obviously went through a little bit of a rough patch, he’s coming out of it, he’s swinging the bat much better,” Mets manager Mickey Callaway said after the win. “Kind of like Robbie [Cano], started hitting balls, but at them. Now hopefully they’ll start falling more frequently, but he’s another guy who has been working hard.” July has been a different story for Conforto, who has 18 hits through the first 17 games this month. He has looked confident in the box and is noticeably more ...

I’m shocked ‘Old Town Road’ is a runaway hit

Twenty-seven years after Billy Ray Cyrus scored a crossover hit with “Achy Breaky Heart,” the country star has lassoed another smash success as a featured vocalist on rapper Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road (Remix).” This week the song tied the record for the longest-running No. 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history. At 16 weeks, it shares the honors with Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” and “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee. It also racked up seven nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards (Aug. 26). Here, Miley’s 57-year-old dad — who also has a new collaboration, “Chevys and Fords,” with Johnny McGuire — traces his unlikely journey with “Old Town Road (Remix)” to the record books. Congratulations on the massive success of “Old Town Road (Remix).” Did you ever see this coming? [Laughs.] How could you ever see this coming? To be 16 weeks at No. 1, it’s not a thought that even came close to crossing my mind. But that being said, I just loved this song, an...

Bryce Vine hopes crush Drew Barrymore will slide into his DMs

After singer-rapper Bryce Vine struck platinum with his 2017 single “Drew Barrymore,” he didn’t get any love from the actress whom he calls “Hollywood royalty.” “Nah, man, she hasn’t called lately,” Vine, 31, says with a laugh about Barrymore not acknowledging the song. “I was kinda surprised too, ’cause I knew that it got big, and I used her as an example of what I feel like most guys want in a woman. It’s a pretty high compliment.” Vine should be getting more props himself, thanks to his debut album “Carnival,” out Friday, which features the Drake-esque “Drew Barrymore.” A summer-ready soundtrack, easing with the chill breeziness of tunes such as current single “La La Land,” the LP will be brought to the stage when Vine’s tour hits Webster Hall on Aug. 3. The gig at the East Village institution will be a homecoming of sorts for Vine, who was born on the Lower East Side, although he moved to Los Angeles when he was just 2. But while growing up, he would still spend summers in New ...

Mets intensify efforts to deal Syndergaard

The hardest sell for the Mets baseball operations department leading up to the trade deadline is not persuading suitors to make substantial offers for Edwin Diaz and Noah Syndergaard. It will be convincing ownership to accept such a deal if it reaches a level perceived acceptable. Teams pursuing particularly Syndergaard describe the Mets as, in the words of one executive, “listening more” to what could be acquired. But the dynamic portrayed also is that Brodie Van Wagenen and his staff do not want to present anything to ownership until it is overwhelming enough that the Wilpons might say yes. One person familiar with the Mets operation said the Wilpons are aware of their reputation for micromanaging and have told baseball operations not to come to them until talks grow serious. As of late afternoon Thursday, one source told The Post, nothing to that level had yet materialized. But the Padres and their deep farm system are definitely interested — as they were in the offseason — and ...
