California cops release graphic video of deadly stabbing spree

Graphic video released Thursday shows a crazed gang member using two large knives to slash a female office worker during a stabbing rampage in Southern California in which he allegedly killed four people. The 54-year-old woman can be seen sitting in a small insurance office when a man in a blue hoodie comes up to her and pulls out the blades, in the horrifying footage released by Garden Grove police. The woman can be seen throwing up her arms to shield herself as the maniac repeatedly stabs her — before eventually fleeing to crouch behind a nearby desk. Meanwhile, the psycho appears to grab something from the office before making a run for it. The woman, who wasn’t publicly identified, was stabbed several times, but was expected to survive. She “was very brave,” said Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney. “She fought as best she could.” Cops say her attacker, Zachary Castaneda, killed four people on Wednesday during a two-hour stabbing and robbery spree. The violence appeared t...

Jordan Spieth bounces back from ugly Wyndham round

Thursday’s Northern Trust first round for Jordan Spieth was a bit of a show-me moment — for himself. After posting two rounds in the 60s at the Wyndham Championship last week, Spieth stunned himself with a third-round 77 that left him missing the Saturday cut. He shot a 4-under-par 67 Thursday. “For me, I came in honestly off of Saturday last week searching a bit, and really thinking about just playing some solid golf to make sure I get two chances at trying to work my way into contention and hopefully make it to East Lake [for the Tour Championship],’’ Spieth said. “I mean, that’s the ultimate goal for me. If I were to make it to East Lake at this point, it means I play some really solid golf these next two weeks.’’ Asked what he was searching for entering this week, Spieth said, “I just had a little doubt in what I was working on, and I hit quite a few balls out of play. Saturday was just a fluke day that would have happened whether I was No. 1 in the world or not. Everybody has ...

Uber stock plunges after whopping $5.2B quarterly loss

Uber shares plunged 6.3 percent in late trading to $40.27, after the ride-hailing giant reported a disappointing quarter capped by a record $5.2 billion loss. Uber said it lost a whopping $5.2 billion, or $4.72 a share, in the second-quarter on revenue of $3.17 billion. Wall Street had been expecting a loss of $3.12 a share on revenue of $3.36 billion. Investors sent the stock down in an after-hours selling spree that more than reversed the stock’s 8.2 percent gain during regular trading to close Thursday at $42.97 per share. Analysts attributed the stock’s daytime run up to a halo effect caused by Lyft’s second-quarter report on Wednesday, which surprised Wall Street with higher-than-expected revenue and lower-than-expected losses. Lyft also cheered investors of both companies by saying its price war with Uber was easing. The Uber rival’s stock climbed 5.8 percent over two days. Uber, which went public on May 9 at a price of $45 per share, blamed $3.9 billion of the quarter’s $5...

Inside Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino’s ‘Jersey Shore’ wedding

The Sitch got hitched. On “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation,” fans of the reality show got a front-row seat to Mike “The Situation” and Lauren (née Pesce) Sorrentino’s wedding. Though the event took place on November 1, 2018, the MTV coverage of the show aired Thursday night. In January 2019, the Sitch was sent to prison for tax evasion. Legal troubles aside, the days leading up to the wedding were no cakewalk. Co-best man and fellow star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was in the midst of a scuffle with girlfriend and baby mama Jen Harley at the time. Ortiz-Magro wasn’t the only Shore castmate in the wedding party. The “Guidos in tuxedos,” Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio and Vinny Guadagnino also served as co-best men. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi’s daughter, Giovanna, and Jenni “Jwoww” Farley’s daughter, Melani, served as flower girls. The wedding took place at Legacy Castle in Pequannock, NJ. As guests arrived, aerialists poured champagne while floating from the ceiling. “Two weeks ago I was walk...

What Shari Redstone won’t say about a Viacom deal

CBS and Viacom reported earnings on Thursday — and refused to discuss what everyone wanted to know: the status of their merger plans. “We will not be responding to questions or comments regarding potential M&A,” reps from Viacom sternly noted at the top of their third-quarter earnings call. Likewise, a CBS official warned that executives would “not be commenting on speculation” about the deal on its earnings call. Despite the dearth of details, sources with direct knowledge of the deal said the merger could be announced within days. Holding up the process are negotiations over the exchange ratio, or the number of new shares that will be given to shareholders of a company that is being acquired — in this case, Viacom, they said. Recent talks have also touched on how to compensate CBS for agreeing to put Viacom boss Bob Bakish at the head of the combined companies — as well as how to account for potential casualties of the merger, like shareholder lawsuits contesting the deal, s...

NYC’s ‘best restroom’ fails smell test

It’s supposed to be the Big Apple’s best bathroom, and then some — but I’d only give it a No. 2. The New Museum of Contemporary Art’s water closet has been named a finalist in this year’s America’s Best Restroom Contest — so I got my buns down to the Lower East Side gallery to… Credit: Source link The post NYC’s ‘best restroom’ fails smell test appeared first on Fox USA Live . from Fox USA Live https://ift.tt/2GU7Jw0

Mets geared up for Nationals challenge

Michael Conforto is among the handful of Mets who actually remembers what it’s like to play in a big series for the team this late in the season. There was the improbable push to the postseason in 2016, when the Mets won 27 of their final 40 games to secure a National League wild-card spot. But the 2017 and ’18 Mets imploded before the All-Star break and never recovered. Now, here come the Nationals for three games beginning Friday, in the most anticipated August series at Citi Field in at least three seasons. “I know the crowd is going to be crazy — we’re looking forward to that and looking forward to seeing this place packed and have that playoff atmosphere back,” Conforto said. “It’s been too long.” Friday’s showdown with the Nationals will mark the home debut of Marcus Stroman, who arrived in a trade with Toronto on July 28. The Long Island native, whom sources said was initially disappointed he didn’t get traded to the Yankees or another more serious playoff contender than th...

Pros eat up Liberty National on Day 1 of FedEx Cup

On Wednesday, the eve of the Northern Trust at Liberty National, Dan Fireman, the president of the club and son of its founder, Paul Fireman, was asked what he’d like the winning score to be this week. He joked about how his old-school dad would probably prefer it not to be very far under par. Well, with Wednesday’s heavy rain softening the course and virtually no wind during Thursday’s opening round, the Firemans did not get their wish. The players ate Liberty National for lunch Thursday, with the leaderboards bleeding with red numbers signifying many under-par scores. Eighty of the 120-player field posted rounds below par. Troy Merritt’s 9-under-par 62 led the way, with Dustin Johnson’s 63 right behind, followed by 63s by Jon Rahm and Kevin Kisner. Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau, Webb Simpson, and Justin Rose all posted 6-under-par 65s. “We were wondering how the course would hold up [Wednesday] night, and it was nice and soft out there,’’ Merritt said. “The greens were real receptiv...

Billionaire Stephen Ross faces new crisis: LIRR at Hudson Yards

Stephen Ross, the billionaire real estate developer getting flak for his Trump fundraiser in the Hamptons, is facing yet another headache — thanks to the Long Island Railroad, The Post has learned. The Related Companies chief and Miami Dolphins owner wants to kick-start the second phase of his Hudson Yards mega-development project on Manhattan’s far west side. But the LIRR isn’t letting the train leave the station, sources tell The Post. At issue are design plans Related and partner Oxford Partners submitted to the LIRR to build a platform over the site’s western rail yard to provide a level surface above the active train yard below. Sources say detailed design plans for the platform, which is required before development can commence, were submitted to the LIRR in the summer of 2018. But the agency still hasn’t given them the green light. “Related pushes them every week,” a source said. The reason for the delay isn’t clear, but until the logjam breaks, Ross’ plans to work on the ...

Yankees banking on 2017-like rebound from Masahiro Tanaka

TORONTO — The Yankees have their fingers firmly crossed that Masahiro Tanaka can pull out of a slide in time to help them in October as he did two years ago. Tanaka is scheduled to start against the Blue Jays on Saturday at Rogers Centre, and in his 23rd start of the season, will attempt to get himself out of a dreadful stretch of outings with just seven weeks to go before the postseason. In his last seven starts, the 30-year-old right-hander went 2-1 and the Yankees won six of the seven games, but that was more a product of the team’s potent bats, which delivered 56 runs in the six wins. The lone loss was a 19-3 shelling the Red Sox dealt to Tanaka on July 25 at Fenway Park. From June 29-Aug. 5, Tanaka gave up 48 hits (nine of them homers) and 13 walks in 31 ²/₃ innings. His ERA was a bloated 10.23 in those games and hitters batted .340 against him. “It’s no secret that it is a pretty rough stretch now,’’ said Tanaka, who is 7-6 with a 4.93 ERA this season. “At the same time, I n...

Dana White to ‘nightmare’ Cyborg Justino: See ya later

UFC czar Dana White has had enough of Cris “Cyborg” Justino. White told reporters this week the Brazilian former titleholder was a “nightmare,” and that he was more than fine with her leaving the fighting outfit. “See ya later,” he said. “Have a nice life.” The already-frosty relationship between the two had frozen over ahead of UFC 240, when Justino announced she would consider other offers before re-signing with UFC after her contract ended, and then demanded an apology from White for years of “bullying” her. White’s response was that he would release her from her contract and Justino simply could leave the company, intimating she had repeatedly ducked potential rematches with Amanda Nunes. Making matters worse, Justino was forced to apologize after posting a doctored video that made it sound as if White said things he has not. She later blamed her production team, but it was apparently the last straw for White. “I don’t think there’s any peace between me and Cyborg,” he said....

Air Canada blasted for asking 12-year-old girl to remove hijab

Air Canada is under fire after one of their employees allegedly forced a 12-year-old girl to remove her hijab before getting on her flight in San Francisco. Fatima Abdelrahman, a player on the US Squash team, said she was flying to Toronto Aug. 1 for a competition — and had already passed through security — when a gate agent asked her to take her headscarf off. “The person at the gate asked me to take my scarf off even though I had already passed security and they had checked my passport,” the preteen told CityNews Toronto. The young athlete asked if she could go to a private area to take off her religious head covering, but the airline employees refused, she said. “I said ‘I feel like this is an open space what about a room?’ And they’re like ‘no’…” she recalled. The allegations went viral when Abdelrahman’s sister Sabreen called out the airline on Twitter. “@AirCanada pls explain why you pulled aside my 12yr old sister for flight 758 making her take off her hijab AT THE GATE?...

Trent Williams doesn’t plan to play for Redskins again

Trent Williams’ time with the Redskins appears to be done. The 31-year-old tackle has not reported to Washington since the conclusion of the 2018 regular season. He has missed OTAs, mandatory minicamp, as well as two weeks of training camp heading into the 2019 preseason. “He’s not coming back. Period,” a source told NBC Sports Washington. “It’s not a contract thing.” The seven-time Pro Bowler reportedly has issues with the organization, specifically the training staff, stemming from the diagnosis of a benign tumor on his scalp, which needed to be surgically removed, according to the Washington Times. There are also reports that Williams is not happy with his guaranteed money situation, though those close to him are adamant the holdout is not about his contract. “He’s in a good place mentally, and he’s prepared to figure this thing out,” former Redskins’ cornerback DeAngelo Hall said during an NFL Network segment. “It’s not a contract thing. And that’s what I asked him — I’m sure...

White House staff reviewing Blagojevich pardon: Trump

The White House is reviewing whether or not President Trump should commute the sentence of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich because his 14-year sentence is “severe,” Trump said Thursday. Trump made the announcement in a tweet Thursday evening, a day after he told reporters he was “very strongly” considering commuting his sentence. “Rod Blagojevich, the former Governor of Illinois, was sentenced to 14 years in prison. He has served 7 years. Many people have asked that I study the possibility of commuting his sentence in that it was a very severe one,” Trump wrote in his tweet Thursday . “White House staff is continuing the review of this matter.” Blagojevich was convicted of soliciting bribes for political appointments, including President Obama’s former US Senate seat in Illinois. Mets steeled for playoff run by season of struggles

A few weeks ago the Mets were on life support. Now they are more dangerous than ever with pitching and hitting finally in sync. They believe the hard lessons learned will carry them into October. For the first time in a long time, it doesn’t seem like just talk. “If we stay healthy … If our arms come together … If Cespedes comes back … ’’ No ifs this time around. Just do it. Bring on the Nationals. Once they’ve been through hellfire as a team and come through it together, there is a much different attitude as evidenced by these words from reliever Robert Gsellman: “We’re excited to play the Nationals. It’s going to be a big series, a fun series,’’ Gsellman told The Post of the three-game encounter at Citi Field that begins Friday night. “We all have each other’s backs right now, playing well, we’re all on the same page, we just have to keep it rolling. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’’ Acquiring Marcus Stroman, who will pitch Friday night at home as a Met for the f...

Ultra-Orthodox Jewish leaders call for de Blasio 2020 donors

Leaders of an ultra-orthodox Jewish sect in Brooklyn are asking their followers to donate to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s struggling presidential campaign to safeguard their local interests. “The mayor has personally asked to support him,” reads the pitch on the fundraising website ActBlue. The unsigned appeal came from leaders of the Williamsburg, Brooklyn Satmar community via a WhatsApp message Tuesday night, according to sources who translated the query from its original Yiddish. The message was first reported by Politico. The unnamed leaders, who refer to themselves in Yiddish as “askanim” or community activists, ask for donations as small as a dollar to help de Blasio meet the 130,000-contributor threshold for the third Democratic primary debate in September. “By donating the dollar, you support your needs, the entire ultra-orthodox public and our rights and needs,” the leaders explain, adding that donations will ensure the community’s “interests” are protected. “Remember: It is ...

How golf helped Jeff McNeil make it to the Mets

It was a tantalizing day of wondering what might have been for Jeff McNeil. Don’t, however, misconstrue that as it being a day with even a nanosecond of regret for the Mets’ sweet-swinging Mr. Versatility, who happens to be leading the major leagues in batting with a .339 average. “This,’’ McNeil told The Post as he stood off to the side of first fairway at Liberty National on Thursday watching Tiger Woods hit an approach shot into the green, “is always what I wanted to do.’’ If not for being ignored by college coaches, McNeil might be roaming the fairways of Liberty National this week chasing the $15 million FedExCup Playoffs pot of gold. Thursday’s visit to the opening round of the Northern Trust on a Mets day off as they brace for this weekend’s home series against the Nationals was McNeil’s first time at a PGA Tour event — other than one Masters practice round when he was a kid. As much as it stirred the passion he still has for golf, there was little question McNeil would mu...

Cop suspended after house hunter uncovers racist memorabilia

A white Michigan cop was put on leave this week after a black family touring his house with a realtor stumbled onto a trove of racist memorabilia — including an “application for citizenship” to the KKK. “I’m seeing Confederate flags on the walls, the dining room table, and even the garage,” house hunter Rob Mathis said on Facebook. “I’m thinking to myself as a joke I’m walking to the imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan’s house right now. I felt sick to my stomach knowing that I walk to the home of one of the most racist people in Muskegon hiding behind his uniform and possibly harassing people of color and different nationalities.” “I immediately stopped my walk-through and informed the realtor that I am not writing an offer on this home and I am leaving now,” Mathis, a Detroit native and U.S. Army vet, continued. The house belongs to Charles Anderson, a 20-year veteran of the Muskegon Police Department, according to a report Thursday by MLive Media. When word got back to city ha...

Daniel Jones has perfect first drive for Giants

The Giants could not have scripted the Daniel Jones debut any better if they allowed general manager Dave Gettleman to submit a screenplay. The rookie quarterback subbed for starter Eli Manning with 7:59 remaining in the first quarter of Thursday night’s preseason game against the Jets. What followed was the blueprint for that the franchise hopes will be a sign of exploits to come. Jones flashed the potential the Giants insist he oozes after making him the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He went 5 for 5 for 67 yards on a perfect drive he capped off with pinpoint 12-yard touchdown pass to Bennie Fowler in the right corner of the end zone. Fowler beat safety Santos Ramirez, secured the ball and then promptly handed it back to Jones for safekeeping. Manning started but this was a complete cameo appearance. He was in for one series — a brief series too reminiscent of some of the shoddy 2018 work of the first-team offense. Manning completed his only pass attempt, a three-yard...

Sean Hannity and Bill de Blasio are a winning ratings team for Fox News

Fox News’ Wednesday night reboot of “The Odd Couple” — an energetic hour-long appearance by ultra-left Mayor Bill de Blasio on conservative host Sean Hannity’s talk show — was a big ratings winner for the cable news channel. The verbal slugfest between the longest-of-longshots Democratic presidential candidate and the Trump-confidante TV host boosted the “Hannity” program’s average nightly audience by 5 percent to 3.3 million viewers, 800,000 more than tuned in to watch Rachel Maddow’s interview with Beto O’Rourke on MSNBC. De Blasio was the first Democratic presidential contender to appear on Hannity’s top-rated show when the two sat down for a combative, yet playful hour-long interview Wednesday, sparring over such issues as guns, taxes and even “meatless Mondays” in city schools. The ideologically opposed duo also drew 8 percent more viewers in the 25 to 54 year old demographic than Hannity’s yearly average, according to Nielsen Media Research. After Hannity and Maddow, CNN’s ...
