The Giants were never going to win against Mike Francesa

The Giants can’t win.

On the field or on WFAN.

So the team and coach Pat Shurmur canceled his weekly Monday “interview” with Mike Francesa. The team decided there was no point to go on with Francesa — and it is probably right.

Francesa doesn’t conduct interviews — especially when he is in bullying mode. He babbles on without any respect.

On Monday, Francesa “questioned” Shurmur by saying:

“I hate to say it, you look like a terrible team. You are not good at anything. You have a really good running back. You have a good kicker, who missed a field goal yesterday, but, other than that, you can’t get the ball in the end zone and you can’t stop anybody. That’s a hard combination.”

That was the question.

Shurmur responded, “Well, those are things that we have to work on as we move forward.”

Shurmur’s answer told you that he doesn’t care what Francesa says.

Really, the whole exercise is pretty pointless unless you like unintentional humor.

Francesa had already called Giants general manager Dave Gettleman a “liar.” Francesa had questioned draft pick Corey Ballentine after he was shot. On Monday, he had another disrespectful interview with Shurmur. On Tuesday, the Giants’ hierarchy discussed how they could take the “high road” with Francesa. They decided there was no high road.

There is no way to really win for the Giants because, as philosopher Bill Parcells famously said, “You are what your record says you are.”

Shurmur is 5-13 as the Giants coach. It doesn’t matter what he says, it’s what he does. He still will be answering questions every day from the media, so he is not dodging anything.

There have been three coaches who have stopped their in-season interviews with Francesa and his former partner, Chris Russo.

Unofficially, they are Mets managers, Buddy Harrelson, Jeff Torborg and Dallas Green.

Does it say something about Shurmur as a coach that he didn’t return Francesa’s fire? Probably not. Have you ever seen a Bill Belichick interview?

If Shurmur was inclined, he could go on and help Francesa try to beat Michael Kay without any asterisks. If Shurmur showed the attitude, arguing could make for good radio. It wouldn’t improve Shurmur’s record.

Francesa will give you a break only if you play the game off the air. He acts like a tough guy sometimes, but has been handing out look-away passes to Jim Dolan and the Wilpons for years.

On the Giants, Francesa’s main criticisms may actually be accurate. But that is not what this is about.

It is about treating a guest with respect. The Giants can’t win, so there is no need to give Francesa help so he can possibly be an undisputed winner against Kay.

Review: Animated ‘Chance’ takes on dog fighting with overly earnest yet well-intended spirit

The CG animated feature “Chance” is a well-intended but heavy-handed denunciation of the barbaric blood sport of dog fighting. Convicted rapist killer strikes again after getting out of jail

A convicted rapist killer who strangled a teen in 1981 and was suspected of cutting out the eyes out of an earlier victim has been arrested on a new rape charge, six years after he got out of jail. Christopher “Crazy Chris” Aniades, 62, is being held on an attempted forcible rape charge after he allegedly attacked the victim, according to the city Department of Correction. He’s being held at the Eric. M Taylor Center in Queens on first degree attempted rape, according to the city Department of Correction website. His arrest on Aug. 2 was based on a warrant issued by the state’s Division of Parole. The NYPD and the state DOC said they couldn’t provide details on Aniades’ latest offense. Aniades, who was released on Aug. 20, 2013 after spending more than 30 years in jail, became a poster boy of the violent 1980s in New York, when homicides routinely reached 2,000 a year. He was sentenced to 25-years to life for abducting, raping and killing 19-year-old Doreen Vitale on Oct. 15 198...
