AOC and ‘The Squad’ shown as clowns in new GOP attack ad

The Republican Party is rolling out an attack ad Monday targeting New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other insurgent congressional freshman known as “The Squad” to paint them as clownish standard-bearers for the Democratic Party ahead of the 2020 congressional elections, The Post has learned.

The ads will be used first against Democrat Dan McCready who is in a closely watched special congressional election on Sept. 10 in North Carolina, against Republican Dan Bishop.

The National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee and the Bishop campaign are bankrolling the TV ad, which begins airing Monday, showing the faces of AOC, and fellow firebrands, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, of Michigan, superimposed on inflatable clowns.

There are other Democratic figures depicted as clowns in the ad — including presidential candidates Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

But AOC is front and center as the chief clown in the ad that slams Democrats as “liberals” and “socialists.”

“They hate President Trump more than they love America,” the narrator says in the 30-second spot as the video pans first to Pelosi and then Ocasio-Cortez.

The video also shows AOC and fellow squad member Omar while the narrator says the Democrats are pushing for “open borders and sanctuary cities.”

The ad then slams the Democrats for pushing “taxpayer-funded health care for illegal immigrants” while showing the clown faces of Sanders and Tlaib.

“They’re not funny. They’re downright scary. I’ll go to Congress and fight these clowns for you ….. it’s time to take the air out of these clowns,” says Bishop, who also appears in the ad.

The ad was already in the works and so doesn’t address the abrupt departures of Ocasio-Cortez’s top staffers on Friday, chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti and press secretary Corbin Trent, or the Post’s report of a federal probe into two political action committees set up Chakrabarti.

North Carolina’s 9th congressional district that borders South Carolina has been represented by a Republican since the 1960s.

President Trump won the district by 12 points in 2016.

But Democrats believe they have a shot at the seat after a ballot fraud scandal tainted prior Republican candidate Mark Harris’ narrow victory in 2018, nullified the results and triggered the do-over special election.

Democrat Dan McCready who ran in the disputed election, is the candidate again and now has three years of name recognition in the district. He trailed in the last election by only 905 votes.

McCready, a Marine veteran, did not face a primary and has aggressively raised millions of dollars.

Harris, tainted by the ballot scandal, stepped aside.

Bishop, a state senator, easily won a ten candidate primary to become the GOP nominee.

The Cook Political Report declares the race a toss-up.

Review: Animated ‘Chance’ takes on dog fighting with overly earnest yet well-intended spirit

The CG animated feature “Chance” is a well-intended but heavy-handed denunciation of the barbaric blood sport of dog fighting. Convicted rapist killer strikes again after getting out of jail

A convicted rapist killer who strangled a teen in 1981 and was suspected of cutting out the eyes out of an earlier victim has been arrested on a new rape charge, six years after he got out of jail.
