FX’s next ‘American Crime Story’ is about Bill Clinton’s sex scandal

FX unveiled today that its third season of the award-winning limited series franchise “American Crime Story” will center on the sex scandal that rocked the presidency of Bill Clinton.

Sarah Paulson, after winning a best actress limited Primetime Emmy for her turn as Marcia Clark in “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson,” will return to the anthology as Linda Tripp, while Beanie Feldstein will play Monica Lewinsky with Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones. Lewinsky will also be a producer on the limited series. Production begins on the Fox 21 Television Studios/FX Production in February with the third season premiering Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020 at 10 p.m.

That premiere date will be about a month out from the next US presidential election.

Sarah Burgess is writing and she’ll also executive produce alongside returning “ACS” team Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall and Sarah Paulson. Henrietta Conrad and Jemima Kahn are also producing.

The limited series is based on Jeffrey Toobin’s bestselling book “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.” Toobin’s 1997 book “The Run of His Life: The People v. O. J. Simpson” served as the source material for season 1 of “American Crime Story.”

FX Networks and Productions Chairman John Landgraf made the news official today during the network’s TCA session.

“FX’s ‘American Crime Story’ franchise has become a cultural touchstone, providing greater context for stories that deserve greater understanding like the O.J. Simpson trial and saga, and Andrew Cunanan’s tragic crime spree which concluded with the assassination of Gianni Versace,” said Landgraf. “This franchise re-examines some of the most complicated, polarizing stories in recent history in a way that is relevant, nuanced and entertaining.

“‘Impeachment: American Crime Story’ will likewise explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton Presidency.  We are grateful to Sarah Burgess for her brilliant adaptation, as well as Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall, Sarah Paulson and the rest of the creative team and cast.”

The first installment of “ACS,” “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” received 22 Emmy Award nominations and it won nine Emmys.

It also won the Golden Globe, BAFTA, AFI, PGA, WGA awards and it won the TCA awards for 2016 Program of the Year. The second installment, “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” was nominated for 19 Emmy Awards and won seven including Outstanding Limited Series. “Versace” also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Limited Series, and AFI, TCA and PGA awards.

Review: Animated ‘Chance’ takes on dog fighting with overly earnest yet well-intended spirit

The CG animated feature “Chance” is a well-intended but heavy-handed denunciation of the barbaric blood sport of dog fighting. Convicted rapist killer strikes again after getting out of jail

A convicted rapist killer who strangled a teen in 1981 and was suspected of cutting out the eyes out of an earlier victim has been arrested on a new rape charge, six years after he got out of jail. Christopher “Crazy Chris” Aniades, 62, is being held on an attempted forcible rape charge after he allegedly attacked the victim, according to the city Department of Correction. He’s being held at the Eric. M Taylor Center in Queens on first degree attempted rape, according to the city Department of Correction website. His arrest on Aug. 2 was based on a warrant issued by the state’s Division of Parole. The NYPD and the state DOC said they couldn’t provide details on Aniades’ latest offense. Aniades, who was released on Aug. 20, 2013 after spending more than 30 years in jail, became a poster boy of the violent 1980s in New York, when homicides routinely reached 2,000 a year. He was sentenced to 25-years to life for abducting, raping and killing 19-year-old Doreen Vitale on Oct. 15 198...
