Kelvin Beachum injury may be hit to Jets’ offensive-line depth

While the Jets are waiting for their newest offensive lineman to take the field, they watched another key one limp off the field Friday, when left tackle Kelvin Beachum exited practice early with a right ankle injury.

Beachum was able to walk to the locker room, a good sign, but the Jets are still going to have him go through tests to see how serious the injury is.

“I don’t think it’s going to be too long,” coach Adam Gase said. “We’re just going through our normal deal, just making sure everything’s all right.”

The Jets made a splash this week by signing center Ryan Kalil to bolster their line. He is not expected to practice until next week at the earliest.

If Beachum is down for any amount of time, that could leave the Jets with backups at two spots. Rookie Chuma Edoga took over with the starting unit Friday when Beachum left.

“He was good,” quarterback Sam Darnold said of Edoga, his college teammate at USC. “We were doing some stuff that we installed a couple of days ago so it was really fresh, but at the same time he was on it so you can tell that he studied and put the work in. I was really happy and stoked for him from that standpoint. But yeah, Chuma did a great job once he got in there once he got his opportunity.”

Darnold has had a strong start to training camp. He has been intercepted just once during team drills, through eight practices.

“Out here you’re seeing it, it’s slowing down for him,” Gase said. “He’s doing a good job if he doesn’t like what he has, getting the ball to the back or the tight end or something underneath. You have to understand when there’s a time to get greedy and when there’s a time to pull back and just check the ball down. I feel like his feel and the protection of knowing when guys are leaking through the line of scrimmage, he knows when to get rid of the ball.”

Darnold was intercepted during 7-on-7 drills on Friday when rookie Kyron Brown picked him off in the end zone.

Review: Animated ‘Chance’ takes on dog fighting with overly earnest yet well-intended spirit

The CG animated feature “Chance” is a well-intended but heavy-handed denunciation of the barbaric blood sport of dog fighting. The title character (voiced by Will Canon) is a dreamer of a pit bull, who believes in a canine god and a peaceful place where “Hatonas” (dogs) can live idyllic lives.... from latimes.com - Los Angeles Times http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-et-mn-mini-chance-review-20190403-story.html>
