The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on Thursday subpoenaed the Trump Organization over hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 presidential elections.
Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr.’s office picked up the probe just weeks after federal prosecutors announced they’d completed their investigation into the payments, made by former-Trump fixer Michael Cohen.
“This is a political hit job,” Marc Mukasey, a lawyer for the organization, told The Post in an email.
“Its just harassment of the President, his family, and his business, using subpoenas and leaks as weapons. We will respond as appropriate.”
Coming off of his victory in the trial of Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, who was accused of several war crimes, Mukasey said he was relishing the next fight.
The summons from State prosecutors, first reported by The New York Times, was for records tied to payments Cohen helped arrange for Daniels after she claimed she had an affair with Trump.
Cohen admitted last year to arranging the payments to Daniels and ex-Playboy model Karen McDougal to keep them quiet about their alleged extramarital affairs with Trump.
He pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations, tax evasion and other crimes and is serving a three-year sentence at a federal prison in Otisville.
Trump has denied having sexual relationships with the women, and has said that the payments were a personal matter, not a campaign expense.
The Trump Organization reimbursed Cohen for the Daniels payment.
Federal prosecutors in New York and Washington spent months probing the payments to see whether campaign finance laws were broken.
