Politicians react to Jeffrey Epstein’s death

Elected and public officials angrily took to Twitter Saturday demanding answers in the apparent suicide of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

“I’m dumbfounded,” wrote Preet Bharara, former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York in a series of tweets. “Public deserves answers.”

Epstein was discovered unresponsive Saturday morning, after sources said he appeared to have hanged himself in his unit inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center. He was awaiting trial on child sex-trafficking charges and was alone in his cell at the time.

The US Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are probing his death.

US Rep. Jerry Nadler, Democratic Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, later reiterated Bharara’s demands, writing: “Deeply disturbed to learn of Jeffrey Epstein’s death while supposedly on watch at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.”

“There are many questions that need to be answered in this case,” he added.

Monica Lewinsky tweeted her support for the victims in the wake of the “strange news.”

“[To] all those young women who may be suffering today as a result of [E]pstein’s death, [I] send my love [and] supportive thoughts,” she wrote. “[M]ay your core strength [and] emotional stability be nearby.”

Attorney Lisa Bloom posted a screenshot of a message from her client, one of Epstein’s victims.

“I will never have a sense of closure now,” the statement reads, in part. “I’m angry as hell that the prison could have allowed this to happen and that I and his other victims will never see him face the consequences for his horrendous actions…You stole from us, the huge piece of healing that we needed to move on with our lives.”

Convicted rapist killer strikes again after getting out of jail

A convicted rapist killer who strangled a teen in 1981 and was suspected of cutting out the eyes out of an earlier victim has been arrested on a new rape charge, six years after he got out of jail. Christopher “Crazy Chris” Aniades, 62, is being held on an attempted forcible rape charge after he allegedly attacked the victim, according to the city Department of Correction.
