Three Texas tourists drown during Turks and Caicos Islands vacation

Three Texas tourists, including a married couple, drowned during a vacation to the Turks and Caicos Islands, authorities and reports said Tuesday.

The couple, Irma Barrera, 33, her husband Roy Perez, 38, were vacationing with their 15-year-old daughter and the third victim and his daughter, when disaster struck Monday on the island of Middle Caicos, according to police and KTRK-TV.

The group was exploring scenic Bambarra Beach when the adults got caught in a fast-moving tide fueled by strong winds, according to police and local reports.

Rescuers were able to pluck the girls from the water, saving them.

Shortly after the incident, Barrera’s body washed up ashore. Search crews scouring the beach found Perez a few hours later.

The body of the third man, who hasn’t been publicly identified, was recovered Tuesday morning, with the help of the US Coast Guard.

Police Commissioner Trevor Botting told Agence France-Presse the incident was a “terrible tragedy.”

Family members of Barrera and Perez told KTRK-TV they were traveling to the Caribbean archipelago Wednesday to bring the couple’s daughter home and learn more about what happened.

The incident has prompted calls from locals for officials to put up warning signs on the islands’ often deserted beaches.

Review: Animated ‘Chance’ takes on dog fighting with overly earnest yet well-intended spirit

The CG animated feature “Chance” is a well-intended but heavy-handed denunciation of the barbaric blood sport of dog fighting. He’s being held at the Eric. M Taylor Center in Queens on first degree attempted rape, according to the city Department of Correction website. His arrest on Aug. 2 was based on a warrant issued by the state’s Division of Parole. The NYPD and the state DOC said they couldn’t provide details on Aniades’ latest offense. Aniades, who was released on Aug. 20, 2013 after spending more than 30 years in jail, became a poster boy of the violent 1980s in New York, when homicides routinely reached 2,000 a year. He was sentenced to 25-years to life for abducting, raping and killing 19-year-old Doreen Vitale on Oct. 15 198...
