New Yorkers flock to Central Park to play with birds

They were winging it in Central Park Saturday.

More than 400 people turned out for the New York City park rangers Raptor Fest, an annual event that aims to inform New Yorkers about the wildlife found in the Big Apple, beyond the concrete jungle.

Amidst a few stressed-out children and dogs, eager onlookers could come face-to-face with owls, hawks and eagles.

Montana, the bald eagle, was the clear crowd favorite.

“The Bald Eagle is the Ace of America!” exclaimed Upper West Side resident Isaiah Wilson, 6.

“He’s a hit. People love being able to see one up close,” said Bobby Horvath, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, who noted Montana was rescued out on Long Island.

The majority of the birds on display were “non-releasable” birds rescued from the wild, Horvath said.

The CG animated feature “Chance” is a well-intended but heavy-handed denunciation of the barbaric blood sport of dog fighting.
