Why fantasy owners should start Ravens in Week 1

The start of the NFL season brings about a massive sense of excitement. Whether you’re a fan of the game, a fantasy football owner, a DFS player or just someone who likes to jump into your office pool, there is definitely a buzz in the air right now. Sundays might still belong to family, but beginning this week, it is your football family that counts the most.

Regardless of where you live, fandom is usually spread around among all 32 NFL teams. Transplants from other cities tend to find each other and huddle up every Sunday as a variety of local bars fly their affiliation flags high, offering shelter to “football outsiders.” In Week 1, if you’re looking for a guaranteed good time, then tap into your local city’s tavern underground and find out which establishment flies the flag of the Ravens.

Baltimore opens its season against the Dolphins, and those who own any Ravens in fantasy should already have them in their starting lineups. The Dolphins made a few offseason trades and put everyone in the league on notice they are tanking the season. The quarterback situation is a mess, the offensive line is trash and the defense has all the earmarks of being a sieve. The point-spread may have the Ravens favored by just under a touchdown, but the score differential is likely to be higher.

If you are still working on your seasonal and DFS lineups, you should probably start things off with quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Mark Ingram. Both players will be heavily leaned on in this offensive scheme, and new coordinator Greg Roman tends to focus on the two positions with respect to the ground attack.

When he was in San Francisco, he turned Colin Kaepernick and Frank Gore into one of the most productive tandems in the league. In Buffalo, he did the same with Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy.

Jackson has the speed and mobility to extend plays with his legs as well as pick up yards on both designed QB-runs and broken plays. Ingram is a between-the-tackles bruiser who can also catch passes in the flat. The two should have no issues exploiting every hole in Miami’s defense.

The Ravens’ receiving corps may not have players who interest you, but the tight end position is certainly generating interest. Mark Andrews could make for a fantastic low-cost option in DFS contests — and in some smaller leagues, could even be on your waiver wire. Go back and look at Roman’s history again: Players like Vernon Davis and Charles Clay were big parts of his offenses back in the day. And, of course, if you need a fantasy defense, the Ravens will be highly coveted.

This week it’s all about the Charm City squad. Enjoy. But, for fantasy purposes, don’t get too attached. We’re hunting Dolphins this season, and that means next week, for better or for worse, we’re all Patriots fans.

Convicted rapist killer strikes again after getting out of jail

A convicted rapist killer who strangled a teen in 1981 and was suspected of cutting out the eyes out of an earlier victim has been arrested on a new rape charge, six years after he got out of jail. Christopher “Crazy Chris” Aniades, 62, is being held on an attempted forcible rape charge after he allegedly attacked the victim, according to the city Department of Correction. He’s being held at the Eric. M Taylor Center in Queens on first degree attempted rape, according to the city Department of Correction website. His arrest on Aug. 2 was based on a warrant issued by the state’s Division of Parole. The NYPD and the state DOC said they couldn’t provide details on Aniades’ latest offense. Aniades, who was released on Aug. 20, 2013 after spending more than 30 years in jail, became a poster boy of the violent 1980s in New York, when homicides routinely reached 2,000 a year.
